Tigers Fall to Warriors in Non-Conference Action



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest to visiting East Stroudsburg University by the score of 70-53 in a non-conference contest on Wednesday night inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* East Stroudsburg erased a five-point deficit early in the second quarter when Holy Family led 20-15 after a pair of free throws by junior Katie O'Hare (West Chester, Pa., Bayard Rustin).  The Warriors used a 14-2 run to grab a 29-22 with less than five minutes to play in the half.  East Stroudsburg would go on to extend the run to 22-3 and as a result held a 37-25 lead heading into the locker rooms at halftime.
 
*  In the fourth quarter, the Warriors led by as many as 17 points to that point when Imani Brown hit a jumped on the team's first possession.  The Tigers quickly responded with a 7-0 run to cut the lead down to 10 points after freshman Jada Smith (Philadelphia, Pa., Merion Mercy Academy) scored a fast-break layup making the score 54-44.
 
* With the Tigers making a run the Warriors responded by scoring 13 of the next 14 points in the game to lead 67-45 with less than three minutes to play.  East Stroudsburg would go on to lead by as many as 23 (70-47) points after back-to-back three pointers by Brown.

Holy Family: Junior Casey Thomas (Hammonton, N.J., Cedar Creek) led the Tigers in scoring after knocking down 6-of-12 from the field to finish with 12 points and four rebounds… O'Hare came off the bench to contribute 10 points in her season debut… Smith controlled the boards for the Tigers as she set a season-high with 13 rebounds to go along with seven points and four assists… Senior Alexis Hofstaedter (Richboro, Pa., Council Rock South (William & Mary)) led the team with seven assists and two steals.
 
East Stroudsburg:  Brown finished with a game-high 27 points thanks to sharp shooting from beyond the arc as she connected on 5-of-10 three-pointer attempts… Brown was among four players to score in double-figures for the Warriors… Jordan Hertz finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assits, while Tiffany Tapotsky totaled 11 points, five boards and five assists… Marlene Bassett added 11 points.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the fifth meeting all-time between Holy Family and East Stroudsburg since the start of the 2012-13 season.  The Warriors hold a slight edge in the series at 3-2 winning three straight over the Tigers.

Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 18 as the Tigers host LIU Post in a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m.
