Tigers Set to Open CACC Tournament



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's soccer team is set to host sixth-seeded Caldwell University in the quarter final round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament on Tuesday afternoon at Tiger Field. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
 
Holy Family, seeded third in this year's tournament, finished conference play with a 10-2-0 record and as a result set up a rematch of last season's conference semifinal with Caldwell.  The Cougars finished conference play 7-4-1 to earn the sixth seed.
 
Tickets for Tuesday's quarterfinal game are $6 for adults and $3 for children, senior citizens and students with a valid ID.  Children under the age of three are admitted free of charge.
 
Scouting Holy Family
Holy Family once again opens postseason play with the conference's top scorer in junior Brianna Rock (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) who has scored a career-high 39 points this season.  Rock has scored a career-high 15 goals to go along with a new career mark in assists with nine.  Also having a career year is senior Stefanie Ulmer (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley HS Center City) who has totaled a career-high 20 points on seven goals and six assists. Fellow senior Shannon Metzler (Erial, N.J./St. Josephs (Hammonton)) has also put together a season to remember as she has totaled a career-high six goals and 14 total points.  Freshmen Cailey Plath (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) and Hannah Derby (Pitman, N.J./Pitman) have recorded double-digit points this season as well.  Plath finished the regular four goals and six assists for 14 points, while Derby compiled four goals and five assists for 13 points. Defensively, the Tigers have allowed the fourth fewest goals this season in conference play.  Sophomore Susie Blaney (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) and freshman Lena Staropoli (Perkasie, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) have started all 18 games in the Tigers' backfield this season.  In net for the Tigers, freshman Emily Camp (Pittsgrove, N.J./Arthur P. Schalick) leads the CACC with 12 wins and ranks fourth with 91 saves.  Camp also sports a .784 save percentage; fifth-best in the conference.
 
Scouting Caldwell
The Cougars enter postseason play unblemished in their final three conference games of the season going 2-0-1 to clinch the sixth seed in the tournament.  Meghan Grundhauser leads the team in scoring with 20 points after scoring eight goals and assisting on four others in the regular season. Macie Pennington has totaled five goals and two assists for 12 points, while Teaghan Darling has scored four goals to go along with three assists for 11 points. Daniela Lucca started 16 games in net for the Cougars and will bring a 1.45 goals against average into Tuesday's quarterfinal game.  Lucca has made 70 saves and is 7-7-1 on the season.
 
All-Time Series
Holy Family and Caldwell have met 24 times dating back to the 1999 season.  The Tigers are 18-5-1 versus the Cougars in that span.  Both teams have faced off in the postseason six times previous, including last year's CACC semifinal in which Caldwell defeated Holy Family in a penalty kick shootout. The Tigers are 3-2-1 versus the Cougars in the postseason.
 
Postseason History
Holy Family has qualified for the CACC Tournament 19 straight seasons since joining the conference in 1999.  During that span the Tigers are 27-7-3 and have won eight conference championships. 
 
What's Next
The winner of Tuesday's quarterfinal will face the winner of the #2 Wilmington/#7 Post quarterfinal match in the semifinal round.  This year's semifinal and final will be hosted by Georgian Court.
