Hudson-Emory Records 1,000th Career Point as Tigers Take Down Griffins



Philadelphia, Pa. - Junior Dyllon Hudson-Emory (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) scored 33 points and in the process surpassed 1,000 points in his career as the Holy Family University men's basketball team defeated Chestnut Hill College in by the score of 81-67 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division contest on Tuesday night at the Sorgenti Arena.

How It Happened
Holy Family scored the first seven points of the second half after leading 43-37 at the conclusion of the first half.  The Tigers opened the half with a 10-2 run to grab its biggest lead to that point at 53-39.  Hudson-Emory capped the run with a three-pointer to increase the team's lead to 14 points.
 
As the half progressed, the Griffins chipped into the Tigers' lead and eventually cut it down to single digits.  Chestnut Hill came within six points of tying the game midway through the half after a jumper by Liban Awl made the score 58-52.
 
Over the next five minutes Holy Family went on to outscore Chestnut Hill, 13-3, to grab its biggest lead of the game after freshman Maliq Sanders (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) scored a layup basket to make the score, 71-55, with 5:41 to play. 
 
Holy Family maintained its double-digit lead the rest of the way to pick up the victory.
 
The Tigers led majority of the first half and even held an 11-point lead at one point.  Chestnut Hill cut the Tigers' lead down to three points in the final two minutes of the opening half before back-to-back three-pointers by Sanders and Hudson-Emory gave Holy Family a 43-34 advantage.  Chestnut Hill's Kevin McWade capped the half with three-pointer to reduce the deficit to six points (43-37).

Holy Family: Hudson-Emory tied his season-high with 33 points to lead all scorers… He connected on 12-of-19 from the field, including 6-of-8 from deep range… Hudson-Emory also recorded 12 rebounds to notch his fourth double-double of the season… Sanders (6-11 FG) finished with 18 points to go along with eight rebounds and six assists… Redshirt freshman Ryan Corcoran (Royersford, Pa./Spring Ford) tied his season-high with his second straight 12-point performance… He also dished out five assists… Freshman Austin Chabot (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) contributed nine points and seven rebounds.
 
Chestnut Hill: Chris Evans led Chestnut Hill with a team-high 15 points to go along with nine rebounds… Awl totaled 14 points and five assists, while Demetrius Isaac added 11 points, four rebounds and three assists…Keith Williams also scored in double-figures as he finished with 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.
 
1,000 Career Points
Hudson-Emory recorded his 1,000th career point this evening after tying his season-high with 33 points versus the Griffins. The junior transfer from St. Petersburg College totaled 615 points in his two years with the Titans.  Hudson-Emory has scored 407 points this season with the Tigers to increase his career total to 1,022.

Tonight marked the 20th meeting all-time between Holy Family and Chestnut Hill dating back to the 2007-08 season. The Tigers improve to 14-6 versus the Griffins as Holy Family has won the last seven match ups.  
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 21 as the Tigers host Wilmington University in a CACC South Division match up.  Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.
