Tigers Drop CACC South Tilt to Wildcats, 83-70



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division showdown versus Wilmington University by the score of 83-70 on Saturday afternoon inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

How It Happened
A late rally by Wilmington turned out to be the difference in what was a back-and-forth game between the Tigers and Wildcats.  With the score tied 61-61 at the 7:11 mark of the final half, Wilmington went on a 14-3 run over the next four minutes to grab the game's first double-digit lead.
 
A jumper by Miles Gillette capped the run for the Wildcats with 3:19 to play as Wilmington took a 75-64 advantage. 
 
Holy Family cut the lead down to seven points (77-70) in the final two minutes after a dunk by freshman Maliq Sanders (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) but that was as close as the Tigers would get of the lead.  The Wildcats outscored the Tigers, 6-0, from that point to close out the game.
 
Holy Family led by as many as nine points (17-8) early in the first half and led majority of the opening frame.  Wilmington tied the game for the final time with :30 seconds remaining in the half before a quick 5-0 run by the Tigers closed out the first 20 minutes.  Freshman John Rigsby (Malvern, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) drained a three-pointer with nine seconds left and freshman Dyllon Hudson-Emory (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) stole the in-bounds pass and scored the layup as the buzzer went off to give the Tigers a 35-30 lead at halftime.

Holy Family: Hudson-Emory scored a season-high 35 points to lead all scorers after connecting on 15-of-24 from the field… It marked his second straight 30-plus point performance and his fifth of the season… Hudson-Emory also totaled 12 rebounds to record his third straight double-double and fifth on the year…Sanders totaled 11 points, six rebounds and four assists, while freshman Austin Chabot (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) tied his season-high with 10 points to go along with six rebounds.
 
Wilmington: Nick Richards finished with a team-high 30 points (12-19 FG) and one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards… Richards also totaled five assists and five steals… Tajee Almon recorded a double-double after grabbing a game-high 16 rebounds… Almon totaled 13 points… Tyaire Ponzo-Meek contributed 16 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Today marked the 28th meeting between Holy Family and Wilmington in the NCAA Division II era. The Tigers are now 20-8 versus the Wildcats after winning nine of the last 10 meetings prior to today's match up.

Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 21 as the Tigers travel to face Goldey-Beacom College in a CACC South Division contest.  Game time is slated for 8 p.m.
