Tigers Conclude DC Trip With Setback to Barton



Boyds, Md. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team dropped a non-conference tilt to Barton College by the score of 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Maryland SoccerPlex. It concluded the team's weekend visit to the Nation's Capital as the University of the District of Columbia hosted a four-team tournament.

How it Happened
Barton scored three first half goals to take full command of the game.  The Bulldogs tallied their first goal in the 23rd minute when Tyler Dew connected on his second goal of the season.  Minutes later Barton doubled its lead with a goal from Tolly Beatson in the 28th minute.  Another goal in the 34th minute gave the Bulldogs a 3-0 halftime advantage. 
 
Holy Family finally got on the scoreboard early in the second half when senior Joe Steward (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) headed in a corner kick from fellow senior Justin Hiltwine (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge).  It marked Steward's first goal of the season and Hiltwine's second assist in the 51st minute. 
 
However, Barton's Alex David scored back-to-back goals in the 61st and 72nd minute to cap the scoring and give the Bulldogs the eventual 5-1 victory.
 
Next Up
Holy Family will host Shippensburg University on Wednesday, Sept. 7 in the team's home opener at Tiger Field.  Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
