Tigers Shutout Cross-Town Rival Philadelphia, 4-0

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team defeated cross-town rival Philadelphia University, 4-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Sunday afternoon.  The game was a make up from the original scheduled doubleheader on March 29.

How It Happened
On an unseasonably cold and windy afternoon, Holy Family shutout its cross-town rival as sophomore starting pitcher Koreen Orozco (Whittier, Calif./St. Paul) (6-7) held Philadelphia scoreless in a complete-game effort.  Orozco, who pitched her third complete game in two days, held the Rams to five hits and struck out five batters to earn her sixth victory of the season.

Orozco managed to keep the Rams in-check offensively as she forced 14 groundball outs as the wind played a factor on balls hit in the air.

Holy Family scored its first run in the top half of the second.  Senior Kristine Casey (Newark, Del./Caravel) reached base on an infield hit to the shortstop.  Casey scored later in the inning after a throwing error by the Philadelphia second baseman.

In the top half of the fourth, freshman Samantha Klem (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) led the inning off with a walk.  Sophomore Alyssa Cudeyro (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) entered as a pinch runner and later scored on a double by Orozco to double the Tigers' lead.

The Tigers tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning after Klem connected with a two-run double to center field.  Junior Brianna Scotto (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) and sophomore Jenna Vasquez (Newark, Del./Caravel Academy) set the tone with back-to-back one out singles.

Freshman Stephanie Pepper (1-5) went the distance for the Rams.  She surrendered four runs (3 earned) on six hits.  Pepper struck out four batters and walked one.  Junior Gianna Bliss led the Rams with a pair of hits going 2-for-3 on the afternoon.

All-Time Series
Today's game marked the 27th meeting between Holy Family and Philadelphia in the program's Division II era.  The Tigers hold a slight edge in the all-time series with a 17-12 record.
