Streaking Tigers Win 11th Straight After Sweep of Eagles

Bensalem, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team swept its fifth straight opponent and extended its season long winning-streak to 11 games after sweeping Post University by the scores of 7-2 and 9-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Friday afternoon at the Bensalem High School Softball Field.

GM1 Score: Holy Family 7, Post 2
GM2 Score: Holy Family 9, Post 1 (6)
Records: Holy Family (25-15, 17-7 CACC) | Post (23-21, 17-9 CACC)
Location: Bensalem, Pa. (Bensalem High School)

Game 1: Holy Family 7, Post 2
Two swings of the bat late in the game erased a 2-0 deficit for the Tigers.  In the bottom of the fifth inning, sophomore Koreen Orozco (Whittier, Calif./St. Paul) reached base to lead the inning thanks to an error by Post.  The error would come back to haunt the Eagles as the Tigers eventually loaded the bases but along the way made two outs in the inning.

A fielder's choice by sophomore Jenna Vasquez (Newark, Del./Caravel Academy) should have ideally ended the inning, but instead sophomore Taylor Favinger (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester County Inst. of Tech.) stepped in and delivered a grand slam home run to dead-center field to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead.  It marked Favinger's fifth home run of the season.

In the following inning the Tigers used the long ball again this time off the bat of sophomore Jennifer Trapp (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) who connected on a three-run shot to increase the lead to 7-2.  The three-run homer was the first of the season for Trapp.

Junior Bailey Walters (Ridgecrest, Calif./Burroughs) received the win after pitching four innings of relief.  She gave up three hits to the Eagles and struck out three batters.  Orozco made the start and went three-plus innings where she allowed two runs on four hits while striking out one.

Senior Kayla Kresley drove in the Eagles' first run of the game with double in the first inning, while junior Marissa Cammarano scored the second run with a single in the fourth.  Cammarano finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate.

Trapp was a perfect 3-for-3 for the Tigers in the opener as she drove in three runs and scored twice.  Favinger also had multiple hits as she went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run.

Game 2: Holy Family 9, Post 1 (6)
In game two, the Tigers completed the sweep in walk-off fashion.  Holy Family entered the sixth inning leading 6-1 before sophomore Alyssa Cudeyro (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) sealed the victory with a three-run homer to left field; her first of the season.  Orozco reached base after an infield error by Post and was followed by a base hit off the bat of Trapp setting the stage for Cudeyro.

Holy Family took control of the game with a five run third inning, which gave the Tigers a 5-1 advantage. The Tigers produced five hits, including a run scoring double by junior Brianna Scotto (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) and a run scoring single by Favinger.

The Tigers also tacked on a run in the fifth inning when senior Alexis Maggi (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) tripled to right-center to score Walters.

Post scored its lone run in the first off a double from sophomore Emily Schaffer.

Walters (12-7) started the game for the Tigers and went the distance holding the Eagles to just one run on three hits.  She finished the game with four strikeouts.

Trapp went 2-for-3 in game two to finish the doubleheader 5-for-6 with three RBI and four total runs.  Klem picked up a pair of hits going 2-for-3.

Playoff Picture
With the two wins over the Eagles, Holy Family now sits fourth in the CACC standings.  The Tigers are not quite locked in at that spot with one conference doubleheader to play.  Holy Family could be seeded as high as third or as low as sixth pending the outcome of the final regular season conference schedule.

Next Up
Holy Family will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, April 23 as the Tigers travel to face Concordia College in a CACC doubleheader.  Game one is slated for 1 p.m. in Bronxville, N.Y.
