Tigers Fall to Nationally Ranked Dowling, 21-5



Rosemont, Pa. - Junior Katie Meinecke scored a game-high seven goals to lead nationally ranked No. 17 Dowling College to 21-5 victory over the Holy Family University women's lacrosse team in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon at the Rosemont College Athletic Field.

How We Got Here
Dowling opened the game scoring three straight goals before Holy Family found the back of net at the 24:46 mark. Sophomore Rose Bachmayer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) came through with a goal after a leading pass from senior Paige Settar (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional).
 
Dowling quickly tacked on three more goals to lead 6-1 within the first nine minutes of the game.  The Tigers cut the lead down to three after back-to-back goals from seniors Erin Harmer (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) and Nicole Braungart (Medford, N.J./Bishop Eustace).  However, the Golden Lions once against responded with three straight goals to lead 9-3 with less than 10 minutes to play in the half.
 
Freshman Dana Trevito (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) tallied a score for the Tigers at the 7:27 mark before Dowling scored the final five goals of the half in a four minutes span to increase its lead to 14-4.
 
Dowling scored seven unanswered goals in the second half to extend its run to 12-0.  Meinecke accounted for four of the team's seven second half scores.  Freshman Vanessa Pagliei (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) scored the Tigers lone goal in the half with two minutes remaining in regulation.

Holy Family: Bachmayer led the team in scoring as she finished with one goal and two assists… Trevito led the Tigers with six ground balls, while junior Kacie Booth (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) totaled four ground balls and a game-high three caused turnovers… Senior Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md./Fallston) totaled 12 saves in net.
 
Dowling: Six players tallied multiple goals in the game for the Golden Lions, including Meinecke's seven goal outburst… She also recorded six draw controls and caused a turnover on defense… Junior Karie Znanieckki totaled a game-high nine points after scoring two goals and helping on seven others… Senior Allie Merrill finished with four points on three goals and one assist while also picking up five ground balls… Junior goalkeeper Lauren Young picked up her second win of the season after allowing just four goals and stopping seven shots… Freshman Tori Johnson entered the game late in the second half and made two saves while allowing one goal.

Today's contest marked the third meeting all-time between Holy Family and Dowling.  With the victory, the Golden Lions improved to 3-0 versus the Tigers.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, March 8 as the Tigers host West Chester University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 3 p.m. at Tiger Field.
