Tigers Drop CACC Opener to Dominican

Bensalem, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team dropped its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader of the season to visiting Dominican College by the scores of 5-3 and 6-3 on Sunday afternoon at Bensalem High School.

Score: Game 1 - Dominican 5, Holy Family 2 | Game 2 - Dominican 6, Holy Family 3 (9)
Records: Holy Family (5-5, 0-2 CACC) | Dominican (6-6, 2-0 CACC)
Location: Bensalem, Pa. (Bensalem High School)

Game 1: Dominican 5, Holy Family 3
Dominican opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning capitalizing off a Holy Family error.  The Chargers then went on to add four runs in the second as sophomore Jillian Regan highlighted the inning with a two-run single.

Holy Family got one of the runs back in its half of the second.  Sophomore Koreen Orozco (Whittier, Calif./St. Paul) recorded the first of her two doubles in the game to drive in freshman Olivia Nolan (Shoreline, Wash./Shorecrest) to make the score 5-1.

The score remained 5-1 until the bottom half of the fifth when the Tigers struck again.  Orozco launched a one-out double to put the team in position to tack on another run.  Senior Alexis Maggi (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) pinched-ran for Orozco and later scored on a RBI single by senior Alicia Alvarado (Palmdale, Calif./Paraclete)

Sophomore Jennifer Trapp (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) recorded a run scoring single in the sixth inning to cut the lead down to 5-3.

In the seventh, Orozco led off with a walk before starting pitcher Desiree Joines retired junior Brianna Scotto (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) on a fly ball to left field.  Scotto turned out to be Joines final batter after Dominican made a pitching change and brought in Emily Larsen to close out the game.  Larsen retired the two batters she faced to preserve the win and pick up her second save of the season.  Joines went 6.1 innings and allowed three runs (2 earned) while striking out a pair of batters.

Game 2: Dominican 6, Holy Family 3

Dominican went on to score two runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game and then came through with a four-run ninth inning to complete the sweep versus Holy Family.  A three-run double by Brianna Espino highlighted the ninth inning for the Chargers as her bases clearing hit made the score 6-2.

In the Holy Family ninth, the Tigers managed to get back one run but it wasn't enough as the Chargers held on to the victory.  Scotto singled in Trapp who was placed on second base to start the inning.
