Tigers Grind Out Victory at Goldey-Beacom, 64-53



Wilmington, Del. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team outscored Goldey-Beacom College, 20-9, in the final five minutes of regulation to come away with a 64-53 victory over the Lightning in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Wednesday night.

How We Got Here
The turning point of the game came in the final five minutes of action as Holy Family outscored Goldey-Beacom, 20-9, to record its 12th conference victory of the season.  With the score tied 44-44 at the 4:56 mark of the second half, redshirt-senior Xavier Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Saul) recorded a steal that led to a fast-break layup by redshirt senior Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge).
 
On the following Lightning possession, the Tigers forced another turnover, this time by Charles that led to one more fast-break basket.  The back-to-back turnovers turned fast-break baskets jumpstarted a 13-3 run for the Tigers.  Redshirt senior Eric Fleming (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) capped the run with a three-pointer to make the score 57-47 with :90 seconds remaining in regulation.
 
Holy Family grabbed its biggest lead of the game with less than a minute remaining when Charles split a pair of free throws to increase the advantage to 11 points (58-47).  Charles finished the game with 13 points and was one of three Tigers to score in double-figures. He also recorded a game-high three steals on defense.

Holy Family: Fleming led the Tigers with a game-high 16 points after connecting on four three-pointers (4-10)… Senior Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) finished with 12 points to go along with seven rebounds…Williams added nine points and three rebounds, while senior Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) produced five points and six rebounds… Senior James McDonnell (Swansea, Mass./Bridgton Academy) led the team with eight rebounds and four points, while senior Hunter Wysocki (Howell, N.J./Colts Neck) pulled down seven rebounds and five points.
 
Goldey-Beacom: Junior Parris Ridgeway-Higgs led the Lightning with 14 points off the bench after shooting 5-of-9 from the field…Senior Algeron Torrence recorded a double-double with a 12-point/11-rebound performance…Freshman Corey Taite added seven points and seven rebounds.

Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 6 as the Tigers host Post University in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 3 p.m. inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.
