Tigers Fall to Cross-Town Rival Philadelphia, 76-66



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team saw its season-long nine-game winning streak come to an end after suffering a 76-66 defeat at Philadelphia University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the Gallagher Center.

How We Got Here
Philadelphia used a 15-0 run midway through the second half to pull away from Holy Family.  After redshirt senior Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) brought the Tigers within two points of the lead (52-50), the Rams rolled off 15 unanswered points over the next eight minutes. 
 
Senior TJ Huggins capped the rally with a pair of free throws with 2:21 remaining in regulation extending the lead to 67-50.  Huggins finished the game with a game-high 23 points.
 
Over the next :90 seconds Holy Family chipped away at the Rams' lead and narrowed the deficit down to six points when senior Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) drained a three-pointer.  Crawford's three-pointer made the score 70-64 with one minute to play. Despite the change in momentum, that would be the Tigers' final basket until senior Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa./Redemption Christian Academy) scored a layup in the last few seconds of the game.
 
Philadelphia scored six straight points after Crawford's three-pointer secure the victory.

Holy Family: Crawford led the Tigers' offense with 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-4 from deep range…. Charles added 16 points and dished out a game-high seven assists… Redshirt senior Eric Fleming (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) totaled eight points, while senior Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa./Redemption Christian Academy) procuded seven points and three boards… Senior Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds while totaling six points.
 
Philadelphia: Huggins and senior Peter Alexis combined to score 46 of the team's 76 points on the afternoon… Both finished with a game-high 23 points… Alexis recorded a double-double after collecting 12 rebounds, while Huggins nearly came away with a double-double of his own after grabbing nine rebounds…Junior Brendan Kilpatrick totaled 13 points and five assists, while freshman Gemil Holbrook added 10 points and five assists off the bench.
 
Postseason Picture
Holy Family, the 2015-16 CACC South Division Champions, will host a quarterfinal game next Saturday to jump-start the conference tournament.  The Tigers could host either Dominican College or Post University pending the results of the final conference regular season games.  The Chargers and Eagles face one another in Tuesday's finale.

Holy Family will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday, Feb. 23 as the Tigers travel to face Wilmington University in a CACC contest. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m.
