Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Brianna Rock Scores 1st Collegiate Goal in 1-0 Victory

Philadelphia, Pa. - Freshman Brianna Rock (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) scored the game's lone goal as the Holy Family University women's soccer team went on to defeat cross-town rival Philadelphia University by the score of 1-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Thursday afternoon at Ravenhill Field.  It was the season opener for both squads.

Holy Family starts its season at 1-0-0 after beating not only the heat but also the CACC preseason favorite, Philadelphia.  The Tigers were selected second in this year's poll.

Both teams managed only four shots apiece in the first half and were only on target on two of them resulting in a scoreless half.  However, in the second half both teams came out firing as Holy Family launched three shots in the first ten minutes.

The third shot of the half by the Tigers turned out to be the most important as Rock converted a shot from 18-yards out after receiving a centering pass from the right side from sophomore Taylor Adair (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan).  Rock's first collegiate goal gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute.

Holy Family would go on to attempt seven shots in the second half, while Philadelphia managed eight shots.  The Tigers' defense pressured the Rams enough where none of their shots were on goal the entire half.

Junior goalkeeper Sienna Smith (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Regional) made four saves in net to record her 12th career shutout.  Her counterpart, senior Courtney Shaw, made two saves for the Rams.

Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 5 as the Tigers travel to face nationally ranked No. 3 the College of Saint Rose in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 6 p.m. in Albany, N.Y.
