Tigers Drop Season Opener at Millersville

Millersville, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team dropped its season opener at Millersville University by the score of 2-0 in a non-conference contest on Thursday afternoon at Pucillo Field.

Holy Family starts its season at 0-1-0 overall, while Millersville begins the new year 1-0-0.

The Millersville offense overwhelmed Holy Family as the Marauders launched 12 first half shots.  However, only two were on target as the Tigers' defense held their hosts scoreless in the half.

Senior goalkeeper Richard Ongaro (Columbus, N.J./Notre Dame/VCU) made two saves in the first half and finished the game with four stops.

Millersville continued to pressure Holy Family and came through with a score in the 47th minute after senior Jaime Vazquez converted a penalty kick to give the Marauders a 1-0 advantage.

The Marauders held Holy Family to only one shot in the second half, outshooting the Tigers, 21-3, for the game.

Millersville doubled its lead later in the half when freshman Dylan Fogerty scored his first collegiate goal in the 85th minute.

Holy Family returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 6 as the Tigers travel to face the University of New Haven in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 1 p.m. in West Haven, Conn.
