Tigers Drop Non-Conference Contest at New Haven, 3-1



West Haven, Conn. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest at the University of New Haven by the score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Kayo Field.
 
Holy Family is now 0-2-0 overall, while New Haven improves to 2-0-0.
 
Junior Rob Poirier scored the game's first two goals as New Haven jumped out to a fast start.  Poirier's first score came in the 18th minute as the Chargers grabbed an early 1-0 lead. 
 
The score remained that way through the rest of the half and into halftime before Poirier struck again this time early in the second half.  In the 59th minute he doubled New Haven's lead with his second score of the game. 
 
The Chargers went on to tack on another score in the 74th minute, this time from freshman George Tighe to increase the lead to 3-0.
 
Holy Family got on the scoreboard late in the game when senior Tom Kostick (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) connected on his first goal of the season.  Junior Connor Stackhouse (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) assisted on the play. 
 
Senior goalkeeper Richard Ongaro (Columbus, N.J./Notre Dame/VCU) made six saves in net for the Tigers in 81:55 minutes of action.  Junior Dylan Rutledge (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) came in for relief and close out the final eight-plus minutes in net. 
 
Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 9 as the Tigers travel to face Shippensburg University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
