Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Tigers Edged by Georgian Court, 2-1

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's soccer team suffered its first conference loss of the season as Georgian Court University came away with a 2-1 victory in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Tuesday afternoon at Tiger Field.

Both teams entered the game undefeated in conference play as the Tigers are now 5-3-0 overall and 4-1-0 in conference play, while the Lions improve to 7-1-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the CACC.

Georgian Court struck first in the early season battle for first place in the CACC.  Sophomore Lizzy Kroon tallied her 11th goal of the season in the seventh minute after collected a rebounded ball previously shot by sophomore Lauren Mendez.  Kroon found the back of the net to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead.

The score remained that way deep into the game until the Tigers came through with the tying tally.  Junior Ursula Coyle (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) converted a header shot into the back of the net off a pass from junior Ashley Shackleford (Burlington, N.J./Holy Cross HS) to tie the game 1-1 in the 76th minute.  It marked Coyle's team-leading fifth goal of the season.

However, Georgian Court responded with the eventual game-winner minutes later when red-shirt senior Rachel Marino scored her fifth goal of the season in the 79th minute.  Marino's goal gave the Lions a 2-1 lead with just over ten minutes to play.

Holy Family managed three more shots in the final ten minutes of action and nearly tied the score off a shot by Coyle in the 90th minute, but senior goalkeeper Casey O'Connor made the stop to preserve the victory.  O'Connor finished the game with four saves after facing 11 shots by the Tigers.

Junior Kacie Booth (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) made four saves for the Tigers in net in her first start of the season.  Booth faced 18 shots by the Lions.

Holy Family is back in action on Thursday, Oct. 1 as the Tigers travel to face Dowling College in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 3 p.m. in Oakdale, N.Y.
