Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Tigers Fall Short at Dowling, 1-0

Shirley, N.Y. - The Holy Family University women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback at Dowling College in a non-conference contest on Thursday afternoon at Golden Lions Field.

Holy Family is now 5-4-0, while Dowling improves to 4-4-0.

Dowling put the pressure on the Holy Family defense by launching 12 first half shots but had a tough time getting the ball past junior goalkeeper Kacie Booth (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade).  She made four first half saves, but in the 36th minute the Golden Lions finally got one through.

Senior Allie Merrill received a pass from junior Kim Spiciarich and converted a shot that hit off the hand of Booth in an attempt to make the save.  Merrill's third goal of the season gave the Golden Lions a 1-0 advantage late in the first half.

In the second half, Dowling continued its offensive pressure with ten more shots, but were unable to get any of them past Booth who made three more saves.  She finished with a season-high seven saves.

Holy Family was held to just three shots throughout the game and one on target.  In the 71st minute, junior Ursula Coyle (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) fired a shot on net but Dowling goalkeeper Mariah Valva made the stop to preserve the shutout.

Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 3 as the Tigers travel to face Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.  Game time is slated for 12 p.m. in Waterbury, Conn.
