Tigers Fall Short Versus Concordia, 2-0

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest to visiting Concordia College by the score of 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.

Holy Family is now 0-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the CACC, while Concordia improves to 3-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in conference action.

Senior Jesus Alvarez-Riesco scored the game's first goal in the 35th minute to give the Clippers a 1-0 advantage late in the first half.

Concordia managed ten shots in the first half as senior goalkeeper Richard Ongaro (Columbus, N.J./Notre Dame/VCU) made five saves in net for the Tigers.  Ongaro went on to finish the game with six saves.

In the second with the score still 1-0 in favor of the Clippers, the Tigers put the pressure on the Concordia defense. Holy Family nearly tied the game in the 62nd minute when junior Dan Trodden (Warrington, Pa./Archbishop Wood) launched a shot dead on goal, but goalkeeper Ruel Gordon made the stop.

Later in the half, the Tigers had another shot on goal when junior Christopher Tracey (Abington, Pa./Abington) found an opening, but Gordon once again managed to make the stop.

In the 84th minute, senior Kevin McCollick (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) gave the Tigers another opportunity to tie the score but was met by Gordon who tallied his fourth and final save of the game.

Ongaro made back-to-back stops in the 88th minute to keep it a one score game.  However, Concordia was able to add one more goal in the 89th minute when sophomore Junior Bernardez scored his first goal of the season.

Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 22 when the Tigers host Wilmington University in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 4 p.m. at Tiger Field.
