Newtown, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team picked up a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) sweep over visiting Concordia College by the scores of 11-6 and 5-1 on Monday afternoon at Helen Randle Park.

Holy Family improves to 8-6 overall and in the CACC, while Concordia is now 3-11 overall and 2-4 in conference action.

Sophomore Brianna Scotto (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) collected four hits on the afternoon as she finished 4-for-7 at the plate.  Scotto scored four runs and drove in two to go along with her first home run of the season.  Freshman Koreen Orozco (Whittier, Calif./St. Paul) and Jennifer Trapp (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) each went 2-of-4.  Orozco recorded two RBI, while Trapp drove in three runs.

Game One: Holy Family 11, Concordia 6

The Holy Family offense exploded for seven runs in the first two innings to jump out to an early 7-0 lead over Concordia.  The Tigers scored three runs in the first as Trapp came through with a two run single to highlight the inning.

In the second, the Tigers added four more runs despite recording only one hit in the inning.  Holy Family took advantage of three walks and an error by the Clippers to tally its four runs. When the inning was all said and done, the Tigers found themselves leading, 7-0.

Orozco retired eight of the first nine batters faced, but ran into trouble in the fourth and fifth innings.  The Clippers scored in the fourth with a bases loaded walk and then added four more runs in the fifth to make the score 7-5.

However, the Tigers went on to expand their lead to 11-5 after tacking on four more runs in the sixth inning.  Holy Family received run scoring hits by freshman Jenna Vasquez (Newark, Del./Caravel Academy), Orozco and Trapp in the inning.

The Clippers scored an unearned run in the seventh but that would be the end of the scoring as Orozco closed out the game to improve to 5-2 this season.  In a complete game victory, Orozco allowed six runs (4 earned) on nine hits, while striking out two.

Orozco, Scotto and Trapp all went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Tigers.

For the Clippers, Hannah Rubasky and Victoria Vickerman each went 2-for-4 with on RBI apiece.

Game Two: Holy Family 5, Concordia 1

Freshman Morgan Maida (Eatonville, Wash./Eatonville) (1-2) earned her first win of the season after going the distance in game two holding Concordia to only one run.  In seven innings of work, Maida allowed three hits, but walked eight batters.   She struck out a season-high seven batters.

After Concordia tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the top of the fifth inning, Holy Family responded with a four spot in the bottom of the inning to lead, 5-1.  Junior Kristine Casey (Newark, Del./Caravel) led the inning off reaching base after being hit by a pitch.  After two straight outs, senior Kelsi Bunda (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) came through with a triple to score Casey.

Freshman Alyssa Cudeyro (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) followed as she reached base on an error as Bunda scored on the play.  Scotto then stepped up and connected on her first home run of the season down the left field line to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead.

Scotto finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.  Junior Bailey Walters (Ridgecrest, Calif./Burroughs) also had a pair of hits in the game as she went 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Walters drove in the game's first run in the fourth inning.
