Lakewood, N.J. - The Holy Family University softball team split in day one of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament hosted by Georgian Court University on Thursday afternoon. The Tigers faced fourth-seeded Post University in game one and came away with a 2-0 victory in extra innings. In game two, Holy Family fell to top-seed Caldwell University by the score of 9-1.

The first game of the day for the Tigers featured a pitching duel between sophomore
Bailey Walters (Ridgecrest, Calif./Burroughs) and the CACC Pitcher of the Year, Samantha Esque.Â

Walters (9-6) went the distance for the Tigers and pitched eight scoreless innings to pick up her ninth victory of the season. She scattered five hits, walked five and struck out eight batters tying her career-high.

Esque matched Walters keeping the Tigers scoreless until the top half of the eighth inning.Â

Taylor Favinger (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester County Inst. of Tech.) and sophomore
Brianna Scotto (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) recorded back-to-back bunt singles that jump-started a two-run inning for the Tigers. After a fly out to left field by freshman
Koreen Orozco (Whittier, Calif./St. Paul), freshmen
Alyssa Cudeyro (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) and junior
Alexis Daubert (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) came through with back-to-back run scoring singles to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Walters retired the lead off batter before allowing a single by freshman Korie McDonald who finished 2-for-4. However, that would be the lone base runner of the inning for the Eagles as Walters went on to retire the two batters to close out the game.

Esque (10-6) received the loss after allowing the two runs in eight innings of work. She allowed seven hits and struck out five batters.

Favinger led the Tigers with two hits for the game (2-for-3)

Game Two: #1 Caldwell 9, #4 Holy Family 1Â
In the second game of the day for the Tigers, Caldwell University (32-12-1) got the better of Holy Family as the Cougars closed out day one of the tournament with a 9-1 victory in six innings.

Caldwell jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after freshman Marisa Monasseri came through with a bases loaded single to score junior Brielle Reighn.

The Cougars added four more runs in the third inning to take a commanding 5-0 lead. Caldwell recorded three run-scoring hits in the inning.

Junior Amber Padilla (15-5) held the Holy Family offense to just one run on five hits. She walked two and struck out three batters to earn her 15
th victory of the season.

Holy Family scored its lone run of the game in the fifth inning after Cudeyro drew a bases loaded walk scoring Favinger on the play. Â Favinger finished the game with another pair of hits (2-3) as she ended the day batting 4-for-6 at the plate.

Caldwell went on to score four more runs in the sixth inning to end the game. Â The Cougars had four players drive in two runs a piece in the victory.Â
Walters (9-7) received the loss after allowing two runs in 4.2 innings of work. She gave up four hits and walked five batters.

Holy Family is back in action on day two of the CACC Tournament as the Tigers face seventh-seeded Bloomfield College in an elimination game. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Field #2.
