Tigers Complete Sweep of Wilmington With Walk-Off Victory

Newark, Del. - Freshman Koreen Orozco (Whittier, Calif./St. Paul) drove in the game-winning run as the Holy Family University softball team recorded a walk-off victory in game two to complete the doubleheader sweep versus Wilmington University on Tuesday afternoon at Asbury Field. The Tigers won both games by identical 2-1 scores.

Holy Family improves to 3-1 overall and 3-1 in the CACC, while Wilmington is now 11-10 overall and 2-4 in conference action.

Orozco finished the afternoon 2-for-5 at the plate and drove in two runs, including the game-winner in game two.  Orozco also earned her second victory of the season as she pitched a complete game in the opener.  In seven innings of work, Orozco struck out four batters and allowed one run off six hits.

Sophomore Brianna Scotto (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) also had multiple hits on the afternoon as she finished 2-for-5 with a run.

Game One: Holy Family 2, Wilmington 1

In the opener, the Tigers scored both their runs in the bottom of the third inning thanks to three extra base hits in the inning.  Sophomore Bailey Walters (Ridgecrest, Calif./Burroughs) and Orozco led the inning off with back-to-back doubles to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Two batters later, freshman Alyssa Cudeyro (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) doubled to drive in Orozco as the Tigers doubled their lead to 2-0.

That would be all the support Orozco would need as she limited the Wildcats to just one run on six hits through seven innings.

Sophomore Becca Stanley accounted for the Wildcats' lone run of the game as she led the fifth inning off with a solo home run to left-center field.

Game Two: Holy Family 2, Wilmington 1

In the second game, Wilmington starting pitcher senior Chelsea Botsch had the Tigers' offense guessing all game up until the bottom half of the seventh inning with the Wildcats leading, 1-0.

Scotto led the inning off with a single to right field and would advance all the way to third base after junior Kristine Casey (Newark, Del./Caravel) dropped down a sacrifice bunt.  With no one covering third base, Scotto quickly advanced another base on the play.

Freshman Jennifer Trapp (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) followed with a run scoring double to tie the game at 1-1.  Two batters later, Orozco came through with the game winning hit driving in Trapp to give the Tigers the walk-off victory.

Botsch (4-5) went the distance for Wilmington as she allowed two runs off five hits in 6.1 innings of work.

For the Tigers, Walters (1-0) picked up her first win of the season as she scattered just two hits in seven innings of work and allowed one unearned run.

Wilmington scored its lone run in the top half of the third inning when senior Kelsey Doherty drove a double to leftfield to drive in freshman Taylor Rizzotte who reached on fielder's choice.

Holy Family is back in action on Thursday, March 26 as the Tigers travel to face Goldey-Beacom College in a CACC doubleheader.  Game one is slated for 2:30 p.m.
