Tigers Come Up Short Versus Bloomsburg, 11-7



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest to visiting Bloomsburg University by the score of 11-7 on Thursday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium on the campus of La Salle University. 
 
Holy Family is now 2-3 overall, while Bloomsburg notches its first win of the season to improve to 1-2. 
 
Junior Paige Settar (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) led the Holy Family offense with three scores as she increased her team lead to 15 goals this season.  Junior Nicole Braungart (Medford, N.J./Bishop Eustace) added two scores, while seniors Caitlin Carrezola (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) and Sarah Kelly (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) each tallied one goal on the afternoon.
 
Kelly also tied for the team lead with three ground balls to go along with four draw controls and one caused turnover.  Senior Kimber Kisselback (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) also picked up three ground balls on the defensive end for the Tigers. 
 
For Bloomsburg, senior Julie Falk paced the Huskies with a game-high five goals as she converted 3-of-4 free position shots.  She also picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers.  Sophomore Brigid Kyne was also a multiple goal scorer for the Huskies as she finished with three goals and an assist to go along with four ground balls.  Senior Marisa Moley finished with a game-high five ground balls.
 
In a low scoring first half, Holy Family was the first to find the back of the net when Settar scored the first of her two goals in the half at the 19:10 mark.  Bloomsburg responded with back-to-back goals by Falk to take a 2-1 lead with 9:03 left.
 
The Tigers eventually tied the game with 2:24 to play until halftime when Settar came through with another score.  However, Bloomsburg would have the final tally of the half when Falk connected with her third score of the first half with :12 seconds left on the clock.  Falk's third goal gave the Huskies a 3-2 halftime advantage. 
 
Bloomsburg launched 14 shots in the first half, but junior goalkeeper Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md./Fallston) made eight saves in net for Tigers.  Deckert would go on to make a career-high 17 saves in net after facing 36 shots by the Huskies.
 
In the second half, Bloomsburg opened the scoring to double its lead, 4-2, before Holy Family followed with back-to-back scores by Settar and Kelly.  The two goals tied the game at 4-4 by the 19:34 mark of the half.
 
With the game tied 4-4, the Huskies would go on to score seven of the game's next eight goals to take an 11-5 lead.  Freshman Taylor Turner capped the scoring for Bloomsburg with her only score of the game with 2:33 to play in regulation.
 
Holy Family added two more goals in the final 64 seconds of the game to cut the deficit to 11-7.  However, time ran out on the Tigers as the Huskies held on to the victory.
 
Freshman Brittney Hegarty finished with 12 saves in net for the Huskies after facing 21 shots by the Tigers.
 
Bloomsburg held the advantage on ground balls (29-18) and shots (36-21) for the game, while Holy Family controlled the draws, 11-9.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Sunday, March 22 as the Tigers host Georgian Court University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.  Game time is slated for 6 p.m. at Camden Catholic High School.
