Tigers Hold Off Georgian Court, 16-12



Cherry Hill, N.J. - Junior Paige Settar (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) had a career night as she totaled nine points to help lead the Holy Family University women's lacrosse team to a 16-12 victory over Georgian Court University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Sunday night at Shamrock Field on the campus of Camden Catholic High School.
 
Holy Family improves to 3-3 overall and remains undefeated in conference play at 2-0 after the victory.  Georgian Court is now 1-5 overall and 0-2 in CACC action.
 
Settar led the Holy Family offense with a career-high seven goals; one shy of the program record for most goals in a single game.  She also tallied a pair of assists to go along with a team-high five ground balls and four draw controls. With her seven goal performance, Settar is now seven goals shy of becoming the fifth player in program history to score 100 career goals. 
 
Junior Erin Harmer (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) finished with three goals and one assist, while fellow classmate Nicole Braungart (Medford, N.J./Bishop Eustace) scored a season-high four goals to go along with one assist. 
 
Senior Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) controlled a game-high five draws and caused two turnovers on defense.  Junior Sarah Kelly (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) also totaled five draws to go along with two ground balls and three points on offense (1G/2A). 
 
For Georgian Court, juniors Callie Brown and Melissa Williams each scored a team-high three goals.  Williams also totaled a game-high five assists to finish with eight points.  Graduate student Stephanie Gallo totaled a game-high five ground balls to go along with one goal and two assists.
 
Holy Family opened the game on a 6-0 run as the Tigers controlled the first portion of the first half.  Settar jump-started the Tigers' offensive surge to start the game with a goal three minutes in.  From there, the Tigers added five more scores, including three total by Settar. 
 
Holy Family took advantage of its success on the draw as the Tigers won 10 of the 13 draws in the first half.  The Tigers finished the game controlling 21 draws, while Georgian Court won nine. 
 
After the Tigers opened with six straight goals, Georgian Court started a run of its own scoring five of the final six goals of the half.  Within a 14 minute span the Lions turned a one-side game into a two-goal game by halftime.   Junior Silvetta Agosto and Williams tallied back-to-back scores in the final :26 seconds of the half to cut the score to 7-5 at halftime.
 
Just like the first half, the second half started in similar fashion as Settar opened the scoring in the first few minutes of the half.  The Tigers opened with five straight goals as Harmer capped the run with her third goal of the game at the 22:56 mark to increase the Tigers' lead to 12-5.
 
Once more the Lions responded again tallying five of the game's next six goals to cut the Tigers lead to 13-10 by the 13:12 mark. 
 
From that point, the Tigers maintained their three score advantage as both teams exchanged goals four different times in the final 11:40 of regulation.  Holy Family capped the scoring in the final minute when Settar scored her seventh goal of the game to make the score 16-12.
 
Junior goalkeeper Grace Deckert (Jarrettsville, Md./Fallston) made eight saves in net for the Tigers after facing 26 shots by the Lions. 
 
Holy Family outshot the Lions, 35-26, and attempted nine free-position shots compared to only two by Georgian Court.  The Lions held a slight edge on ground balls, 21-20.
 
Junior Stephanie Lehner and senior Amanda Cathcart split time in net for the Lions.  Lehner made five stops and allowed seven scores in the first half, while Cathcart made ten saves and allowed nine goals in the second half.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, March 25 as the Tigers travel to face Queens College in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
