Tigers Drop Season Opener to No. 4 LIU Post, 16-3



Brookville, N.Y. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener at nationally ranked No. 4 LIU Post by the score of 16-3 in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium.
 
Holy Family is 0-1 to start the season, while LIU Post begins the new year at 1-0. 
 
The Tigers opened the scoring in the game's first four minutes of action when junior Paige Settar (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) scored a free-position goal to give the team a 1-0 lead.  However, LIU Post followed with 11 unanswered goals on its way to an 11-1 halftime lead.
 
Settar finished the game scoring all three goals for the Tigers, while senior Brianna Lancetta (Marlton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) tallied an assist on her third score of the game.  Lancetta also caused a team-high two turnovers and controlled three draws. 
 
Senior Caitlin Carrezola (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) and sophomore Ursula Coyle (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) each tallied a team-high three ground balls. Settar also finished the game with three ground balls.
 
Seven different players scored for LIU Post, including junior Honey Roche and redshirt sophomore Emily Delaney who each finished with four goals apiece. 
 
The Pioneers outshot the Tigers, 21-4, in the first half and controlled 10 of the 13 draws.  For the game, LIU Post finished with 31 shots, 14 draws and 17 ground balls.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, March 4 as the Tigers travel to face Millersville University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
