Tigers Clinch No. 2 Seed in South With Victory at Chestnut Hill



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team will host a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) quarterfinal final contest after clinching the second seed in the South Division with an 89-70 victory at Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday night at the Sorgenti Arena in the regular season finale.
 
Holy Family improves to 21-7 overall and wraps up conference action with a 15-4 mark.  Chestnut Hill concludes its season at 6-20 overall and 5-14 in CACC action.  The Tigers' 21st victory of the season ties the 2007-08 team with most victories in the NCAA era, which began with the 2003-04 season. 
 
Junior Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa./Redemption Christian Academy) led the Tigers with a game-high 22 points after shooting 50.0-percent (9-18) from the field.  He also grabbed six rebounds and blocked three shots. Redshirt junior Eric Fleming (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) totaled a season-high 18 points as he connected with six three-pointers on the night (6-8). 
 
Redshirt junior Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) added ten points to go along with a game-high nine assists to tie his season-high.  Junior Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) contributed eight points and a team-high nine rebounds, while junior Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) added eight points, four rebounds and six assists.
 
For Chestnut Hill, sophomore Billy Cassidy led the way with 16 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Junior Luke Dickson came off the bench and contributed 15 points, four rebounds and three assists.
 
Holy Family came out the gate firing as the Tigers opened with a 17-5 run to take a commanding 12-point lead by the 13:20 mark of the half.  The Tigers went on to lead by as many as 24 points in the first half when Gans scored a layup to make the score 40-16 with 4:48 remaining until halftime.
 
Holy Family shot 43.0-percent from the field in the first half and knocked down seven three-pointers on its way to a 42-29 halftime advantage.
 
The Tigers held on to their double-digit lead throughout the second half and even increased the lead back up to 24 points late in the half.  Charles came through with a layup to make the score 78-54 with 6:27 to play in regulation.
 
Holy Family finished the game with 14 three-pointers after connecting on another seven threes in the second half.  The Tigers shot 41.2-percent from deep range for the game.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 28 as the Tigers host the third seed out of the North Division in Caldwell University in the CACC quarterfinal round.  Game time is slated for 2 p.m. at the Campus Center Gymnasium.  The Tigers are advancing to the conference tournament for the fourth straight season under fifth year head coach R.C. Kehoe.
