Gans, Charles Lead Tigers Over Concordia, 101-72



Philadelphia, Pa. - Junior Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa./Redemption Christian Academy) and redshirt junior Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) combined to score 61 points as the Holy Family University men's basketball team defeated visiting Concordia College by the score of 101-72 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center Gymnasium.
 
Holy Family improves to 19-7 overall and 13-4 in the CACC, while Concordia is now 11-14 overall and 8-8 in conference action.
 
Gans led all scorers with a career-high 32 points after connecting from 12-of-20 from the field.  He also drained 6-of-11 from three-point range and was 2-of-3 from the free throw line.  Gans also grabbed four rebounds and blocked two shots.   As for Charles, he finished with 29 points after shooting 8-of-12 from the field, including 3-of-4 from deep range.  He also was a near perfect 10-of-11 from the free throw line.  Charles dished out a game-high seven assists and totaled three boards.
 
Redshirt junior Eric Fleming (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) connected on 3-of-4 from three-point range to finish with nine points and five rebounds, while junior Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) recorded eight points, nine rebounds and three assists.  Redshirt junior Xavier Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Saul) added six points, three rebounds and five assists.
 
For Concordia, junior Peter Aguilar led the Clippers with 20 points off the bench on 9-of-16 shooting. He also recorded five rebounds.  Sophomore Jalen Heath recorded a double-double with 19 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.  Senior Tshyrad Oates and junior Jamie Holder each finished with 10 points.  Oates also had nine rebounds.
 
In a game that was close early on quickly turned into a one-sided affair.  Trailing 21-20, Charles gave Holy Family the lead for good at the 7:43 mark of the first half with a layup basket.  From there, Holy Family went on to close out the half on a 25-11 run to lead 45-32 at the half.
 
Charles (21) and Gans (18) scored 39 of the team's 45 first half points and even outscored Concordia on their own, 39-32. 
 
In the second half, the Tigers opened with a 7-0 run as a layup score by Crawford gave the team a 20-point advantage at 52-32.  As the half progressed, the Tigers maintained their double-digit lead and even swelled their advantage to 30 points after Fleming hit a three-pointer at the 3:15 mark to make the score 94-64.
 
Williams hit a three-pointer; the team's 14th of the game, with less than minute to play to give the Tigers a season-high 101 points.  It marked the first time since the 2007-08 season that the Tigers have reached the century mark in a single game.  The last time occurred in the 108-75 victory at NYIT on Feb. 2, 2008.
 
Holy Family finished the game shooting over 50.0-percent from the field (35-68) and 14-of-33 from deep range.  The 14 three-pointers marked the sixth straight game the Tigers have connected on 10 or more three-pointers.  In addition, the team shot a season-best 89.5-percent from the free throw line after converting 17-of-19 from the line.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 21 as the Tigers host Nyack College in the final home regular season contest of the year.  Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
