Tigers Push Past Georgian Court, 84-67



Philadelphia, Pa. - Junior Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) scored a season-high 24 points to help lead the Holy Family University men's basketball team to a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division victory over visiting Georgian Court University by the score of 84-67 on Tuesday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium. 
 
Holy Family, winners of four straight games, improves to 18-6 overall and 12-3 in conference play.  Georgian Court is now 5-17 overall and 2-13 in the CACC. 
 
Crawford shot an impressive 9-of-11 from the field to finish with a game-high 24 points; scoring 14 in the second half (5-7 FG).  He also recorded seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.  Redshirt junior Eric Fleming (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) connected on five three-pointers (5-9 3FG) in the first half alone finishing with a season-high 17 points.  Fleming scored all his points in the first half after connecting on his first three-pointers of the game.
 
Redshirt junior Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) finished with 15 points, while juniors Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa./Redemption Christian Academy) and Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) each totaled seven points and nine rebounds each.
 
For Georgian Court, freshman Juwuan Carter finished with a team-high 14 points, while redshirt freshman J.D. Rodriguez totaled 11 points off the bench.   Freshman Michael Pierre added nine points.
 
Georgian Court led by as many as five points in the first half before Fleming knocked down three straight three-pointers on three straight possessions to give the Tigers a 14-13 lead at the 13:31 mark.  Holy Family maintained the lead throughout the half and led by as many as 13 points when Stewart drained a three-pointer to make the score 39-26 with 3:16 to play until halftime.
 
The Tigers connected on 8-of-19 attempts from deep range in the first half to help fuel their 42-35 halftime advantage.  The team finished the game with ten three-pointers as the Tigers are currently 13th in Division II with 10.0 three-pointers made per game.
 
In the second half, the Tigers led the entire time but had a scare when Georgian Court cut into their lead by two points on a few occasions.  The later came at the 11:29 mark when sophomore Olin Ugo scored a basket to make the score 55-53.
 
However, Holy Family quickly regrouped and used a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to increase its lead to 14 points.  Charles converted a pair of free throws to make the score 67-53 with 7:46 to play in regulation.
 
Holy Family would lead by as many as 20 points in the final minute after junior Turhan Griffin (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Learning Center) scored a three-point play after connecting on a free throw to make the score 84-64.  Griffin finished with five points, four rebounds and three assists. 
 
Defensively, the Tigers forced 20 turnovers and capitalized off the Georgian Court miscues by scoring 26 points.  The team scored 18 points alone in the second half off turnovers by the Lions. 
 
Holy Family is back in action on Thursday, Feb. 12 as the Tigers travel to face Philadelphia University in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 8 p.m.
