Tigers Over Power Georgian Court, 92-73



Lakewood, N.J. - Senior Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa./Redemption Christian Academy) recorded his first double-double of the season with a 22-point and 14-rebound performance as the Holy Family University men's basketball team opened Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action with a 92-73 victory at Georgian Court University on Wednesday night at the Wellness Center.
 
Holy Family improves to 3-0 overall and starts conference play at 1-0, while Georgian Court falls to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the CACC.
 
Gans led the Tigers with a season-high 22 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.  He also blocked a season-high six shots on defense to go along with a pair of steals.  Senior Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti), the CACC Co-Player of the Week as well as the Defensive Player of the Week, finished the game with 11 points and eight rebounds. 
 
Seniors Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) and Hunter Wysocki (Howell, N.J./Colts Neck) each came off the bench to score 14 points.  Crawford shot 5-of-9 from the field and also finished with a team-high four steals.  Wysocki added three rebounds and two steals.  Redshirt senior Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) also scored in double-figures with 10 points.  Charles also dished out a game-high six assists. 
 
For Georgian Court, Juwuan Carter led the team with a game-high 23 points after shooting 8-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-4 from deep range.  Carter also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out three assists. Keith Hughes went on to finish with 18 points (8-18 FG) to go along with 12 rebounds to record a double-double.  J.D. Rodriguez just missed a double-double as he finished with nine points and nine rebounds, while Luke Zgonjanin produced nine points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.
 
The turning point in the game came early in the second half when Georgian Court cut the Holy Family lead down to two points when Carter capped a three-point play with a free throw to make the score 46-44. 

From there, Holy Family went on a 9-0 run to grab its first double-digit lead of the game after Charles split a pair of free throws to expand the lead to 55-44 at the 14:48 mark.  Georgian Court responded and did cut the Tigers' lead down to five (58-53) on two occasions with the later coming with 11:52 on the clock.
 
Over the next nine-plus minutes though, the Tigers maintained control of the game and went on a 26-11 surge to lead by 20 points.  Gans converted a pair of free throws to up the score to 84-64 with less than three minutes to play.
 
Holy Family knocked down 15 three-pointers in the game.  The Tigers' bench outplayed the Georgian Court reserves by outscoring them, 38-10. 
 
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 21 as the Tigers travel north to face Southern New Hampshire University in a non-conference contest. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m. in Manchester, N.H.
