Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Tigers Shutdown Goldey-Beacom, 4-0

Wilmington, Del. - The Holy Family University women's soccer team picked up a 4-0 victory at Goldey-Beacom College in its final Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest of the season on Tuesday afternoon at NCS Field.

Holy Family improves to 11-5-1 overall and concludes conference play with a 9-2-1 record.  The win gives the Tigers 28 points in the CACC standings and guarantees a top-four finish as well as a home game for next week's quarterfinals.  Goldey-Beacom is now 6-5-0 overall and 5-7-0 in the CACC.  Despite the loss, the Lightning clinched the eighth seed in the upcoming conference tournament.

Holy Family wasted no time jumping on the scoreboard as red-shirt freshman Stefanie Ulmer (Philadelphia, Pa./Delaware Valley HS Center City), who was just named the CACC Rookie of the Week, scored on a break-away after receiving an outlet pass from junior Ashley Shackleford (Burlington, N.J./Holy Cross HS)

Ulmer's goal in the fourth minute marked her eighth of the year as the Tigers led 1-0 early on in the game.

Holy Family doubled its lead later in the half when junior Ursula Coyle (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) connected on her eighth goal of the season in the 43rd minute.  Coyle knocked in a shot following a corner kick attempt by sophomore Shannon Metzler (Erial, N.J./St. Josephs (Hammonton)).  The goal gave the Tigers a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The Tigers struck early again to open the second half.  This time Shackleford scored a goal of her own from 20-yards out after receiving a pass from junior Samantha O'Donnell (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy).  Shackleford's goal in the 54th minute was her fifth of the season.

Holy Family tacked on one more goal on the afternoon when senior Nicole Wright (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) knocked in a rebounded ball initially shot by freshman Alyssa Christiansen (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent).  Goldey-Beacom goalkeeper, Cindell Aguirre, made the stop on Christiansen's shot, but Wright was in the right spot as she cleaned up the rebound for her fifth goal of the season in the 69th minute.  Cindell finished the game with six saves after facing 12 shots by the Tigers.

Junior goalkeepers Kacie Booth (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) and Sienna Smith (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Regional) combined for the shutout victory.  Booth got the start in net for the Tigers and made three saves in the first half.  Smith entered in the second half and held Goldey-Beacom scoreless after seeing only three off-target shots by the Lightning.

Holy Family closes out the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 29 as the Tigers host NYIT in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 3 p.m. at Tiger Field.
