Tigers Fall to Caldwell, 2-1



Caldwell, N.J. - The Holy Family University women's soccer team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Caldwell University by the score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field.
 
Holy Family is now 10-5-1 overall and 8-2-1 in the CACC, while Caldwell improves to 9-6-1 overall and 8-1-1 in conference play.  Holy Family is currently in a three-way tie for third place in the CACC with Caldwell and Post University as all three teams have 25 points in the standings. 
 
Two first half goals by the Cougars was the difference in the game.  Caldwell struck twice midway through the first half with goals from Emily Valerian and Ashley King. 
 
Valerian scored her fifth goal of the season in the 26th minute to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.  King followed with her first goal of the season in the 31st minute to double the lead as Caldwell took a 2-0 advantage into halftime.
 
The Caldwell defense limited Holy Family to only four shots in the first half and seven for the game. The Tigers lone shot on goal came in the 58th minute when redshirt freshman Stefanie Ulmer (Philadelphia, Pa.) connected on her seventh goal of the season. 
 
Ulmer received a cross-pass from senior Jenna Richards (Croydon, Pa./Conwell Egan) and went on to fire a shot right past goalkeeper, Mary Kanzler.  The assist by Richards marked her team-leading seventh of the season. 
 
Junior Kacie Booth (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) made six saves in net for the Tigers after facing 11 shots by Caldwell.
 
Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 27 as the Tigers close out conference play at Goldey-Beacom College.  Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
