Tigers Pick Up Key Conference Victory Over Chestnut Hill

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team came away with a 3-2 victory over visiting Chestnut Hill College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Tuesday afternoon at Tiger Field.

The win pushes the Tigers to 4-11-1 overall and 4-6-0 in the CACC.  Chestnut Hill is now 5-6-2 overall and 4-4-2 in conference action after the defeat.  The victory turned out to be key for the Tigers as they currently sit tenth in the CACC standing; two points behind Georgian Court University and Chestnut Hill who both have 14 points and hold the seventh and eighth postseason spots.  Nyack College is ahead of the Tigers in ninth with 13 points.  Holy Family holds the tie-break with each team after defeating all three during the course of the season.

Holy Family took little time to jump-start its offense as the Tigers opened with a goal in just the second minute of action.  Junior Christopher Tracey (Abington, Pa./Abington) was able to pull Chestnut Hill goalkeeper, James Jackson, from net as Jackson tried to disrupt a potential shot by Tracy who quickly dished the ball to senior Kevin McCollick (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.).

With the goalkeeper out of position, McCollick fired on a wide open net from inside the box for his fourth goal of the season.

Holy Family wasted no time to double its lead when sophomore Mariano Cepeda (Philadelphia, Pa. (Argentina)/Roman Catholic) launched a shot from about 35-yards out that found the back of the net for the score.  It marked Cepeda's third goal of the season in the ninth minute.

Chestnut Hill would go on to cut into the Tigers' lead midway through the half when Joseph Casaletto tallied his first goal of the season in the 23rd minute.  Casaletto was able to get a shot off from the middle of the box after two quick passes from Nils Fussen and Nicholas Jaffe.

The score remained 2-1 in favor of the Tigers for the next 58 minutes of action.  That is when senior Aiah Mbriwa (Abington, Pa./Philmont Christian Academy) scored his second goal of the season giving the Tigers an important insurance goal in the 80th minute.  Junior Justin Hiltwine (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) started the play with a pass towards the net before Tracey set up Mbriwa with a quick pass to the left side inside the box.

Mbriwa's goal would later come back and help the Tigers as the Griffins responded in the 84th minute with a goal by Fussen who headed in a pass from Matthew McLeod. Fussen's fourth goal of the season made the score 3-2 with just over six minutes to play.

The Holy Family defense managed to keep the Griffins in check the rest of the way to hold on to the one goal victory.  Senior goalkeeper Richard Ongaro (Columbus, N.J./Notre Dame/VCU) made three saves in net after facing 13 shots by Chestnut Hill.

Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 24 as the Tigers travel to face Caldwell University in another big CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
