Tigers Keep Playoff Hopes Alive With Victory at Caldwell

Caldwell, N.J. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team kept its postseason hopes alive after defeating Caldwell University, 3-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon at Caldwell Field.

Holy Family, winners of three straight games, improves to 5-11-1 overall and 5-6-0 in the CACC.  Caldwell is now 3-11-1 overall and 2-7-1 in conference action.  The victory pushes the Tigers into eighth place in the conference standings and in possession of the final postseason spot.

Holy Family opened the scoring midway through the first half and never looked back.  Junior Connor Stackhouse (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) scored his first goal of the season in the 28th minute off a free kick just outside the top of the box.

The Tigers didn't score again until the 80th minute when junior Justin Hiltwine (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) connected on his third goal of the season after receiving a pass from junior Christopher Tracey (Abington, Pa./Abington).  Hiltwine's goal doubled the Tigers lead with just over ten minutes to play in regulation.

In the 87th minute, senior Aiah Mbriwa (Abington, Pa./Philmont Christian Academy) gave the Tigers some late insurance with his third goal of the season.  Mbriwa led a fast break and connected on a kick towards the left side of the net.  Mbriwa's score gave the Tigers a 3-0 advantage in the final minutes.

Both team's finished with eight shots as senior goalkeeper Richard Ongaro (Columbus, N.J./Notre Dame/VCU) made four stops in net for the Tigers as he recorded his second shutout of the season and ninth of his career.

Holy Family closes out the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 28 as the Tigers travel to face Goldey-Beacom College in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m.  A victory over the Lightning will clinch a postseason spot for the Tigers.
