Tigers Edge Felician on Senior Day

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's soccer team continues to roll to conference play after defeating Felician College by the score of 2-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.

Holy Family improves to 9-4-0 overall and 7-1-0 in the CACC, while Felician falls to 5-7-0 overall and 5-5-0 in conference action.

Prior to the start of the game, the Tigers recognized its senior class in part of Senior Day Festivities.  This year's senior class includes, Lisa Abramski (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), Marie Bisirri (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy), Jenna DeVice (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower), Stephanie Fischer (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury), Jenna Richards (Croydon, Pa./Conwell Egan) and Nicole Wright (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson).

Holy Family struck first in this way and opened with an early 1-0 lead after Wright came away with her fourth goal of the season in the 14th minute.  Richards began the play breaking away from the defense heading down field. She then passed off to Wright who finished with a chip shot that sailed over the goalkeeper's head for the score.

The Tigers doubled their lead later in the second half when redshirt freshman Stefanie Ulmer (Philadelphia, Pa.) connected her own rebounded shot.  Felician goalkeeper, Bjonda Ademi, made the initial stop on Ulmer's first shot but was unable to stop her second as Ulmer tallied her fourth goal of the season in the 56th minute.

The score remained 2-0 in favor of the Tigers until Felician finally got on the scoreboard in the 76th minute.  After a handball by the Tigers inside the box, Amanda Nowak went on to convert a penalty kick for the Golden Falcons to make the score 2-1.  The goal marked Nowak's fifth of the season.

Holy Family maintained the lead the rest of the way but had a scare in the final minute.  Felician's Carly Bratner fired a shot on goal but junior Kacie Booth (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) made a flying save to knock the ball out of bounds.  The play resulted in a corner kick with less than :30 seconds left on the clock, but the Tigers' defense managed to clear the ball and secure the one goal victory.

Booth finished the game with seven saves tying her season-high as she improved to 5-2-0 this year in net.

Holy Family is back in action on Monday, Oct. 19 as the Tigers host Nyack College in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m. at Tiger Field.
