Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Richards Scores Game-Winner in Double-Overtime

Philadelphia, Pa. - Senior Jenna Richards (Croydon, Pa./Conwell Egan) scored the game-winning goal with 54 seconds remaining in the final overtime period to lift the Holy Family University women's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Queens College in a non-conference contest on Thursday afternoon at Tiger Field.

Holy Family improves to 8-4-0 overall, while Queens falls to 4-6-2 overall.

With the game knotted at 2-2 in the final minute of the second overtime period, Richards managed to get off a shot after a scramble for the loose ball in front of the net.  Richards officially scored her first goal of the season in the 110th minute of action.

Earlier in the first overtime period, the Tigers nearly came away with the game-winner after back-to-back shots by redshirt freshman Stefanie Ulmer (Philadelphia, Pa.) and freshman Brianna Rock (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem).  Ulmer's shot was saved by Queens' goalkeeper Kimberly Chacko and Rock collected the rebounded ball but her shot sailed just wide of the net.

Queens scored the first goal of the game when Erin Vernillo connected on her team leading fifth goal of the season in the 22nd minute.  She managed to drive up the field and score on a break-way with a shot from just outside the box.

As the half progressed, the Tigers finally got on the scoreboard when Rock scored her third goal of the season in the 35th minute off a pass from sophomore Taylor Adair (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan).  The score remained 1-1 through halftime until the Tigers struck again early in the second half.

Senior Lisa Abramski (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) received a cross-pass from Adair and fired a shot from about 20-yards out to convert for the score.  It marked Abramski's third goal of the season and Adair's second assist of the game.

Queens went on to tie the game at 2-2 in the 76th minute when Karysaa Pikoulas scored a goal to force overtime.

Junior goalkeeper Kacie Booth (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) made five saves in net for the Tigers after facing 20 shots.  Queens outshot the Tigers, 20-15, for the game, including 11-3 in the first half.

Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 17 as the Tigers host Felician College in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 12 p.m. at Tiger Field.  Prior to the game, the Tigers will recognize its senior class in part of Senior Day Festivities.
