Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tigers Edged By Post, 68-65

Waterbury, Conn. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Post University by the score of 68-65 on Sunday afternoon at the Drubner Center.

Holy Family is now 14-6 overall and 8-3 in the CACC, while Post improves to 9-8 overall and 8-3 in conference action.

Junior Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa./Redemption Christian Academy) recorded his fifth double-double of the season and his second in as many games as he led the Tigers with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.  Gans also blocked three shots on defense.  Redshirt junior Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) totaled 14 points, while junior Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) added 13 points.

Junior Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) added seven points, six rebounds and a game-high four steals, while junior Turhan Griffin (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Learning Center) contributed six points and a team-high three assists.

For Post, senior Nardie Bogues led the Eagles with a game-high 22 points while dishing out five assists.  Redshirt freshman Jah'sheme Ringgold finished with 19 points, while freshman Matt Mareno added 14 points and nine rebounds.

Both teams battled back-and-forth throughout the first half after the Tigers jumped out to a 5-0 run to start the game.  However, it was the Eagles that led by as many as nine points in the final minute of the half and went on to take a 37-30 lead entering halftime.

Post increased its lead to as many as 11 points after a three-pointer by Bogues made the score 46-35 at the 15:33 mark.  The Tigers rallied and used 15-5 surge over the next five minutes to cut the Eagles' lead to one point.  A Gans layup cut the score to 51-50.

Post quickly responded scoring on three straight possessions to increase its lead back up to seven points past the midway points of the half (57-50).

From there, the Tigers continued to chip away at the Eagles' lead but each time the home team responded halting any possible comeback by the Tigers.

Holy Family came within two points of the lead at the 3:47 mark after Crawford split a pair of free throws to make the score 63-61.  Again, Post responded on its following possession to increase the team to a two-possession game.

The Post defense held Holy Family to 2-of-6 shooting from the field in the final 3:26 of regulation on its way to the three-point victory.

Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 27 as the Tigers travel to face cross-town rival Philadelphia University in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 8 p.m.
