Tigers Hold Off Chestnut Hill, 71-62



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team picked up a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over visiting Chestnut Hill College by the score of 71-62 on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center Gymnasium.
 
Holy Family improves to 13-5 overall and 7-2 in the CACC, while Chestnut Hill is now 4-12 overall and 3-6 in conference action.
 
Junior Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) led all scorers with a game-high 19 points as she shot 7-of-14 from the field.  Crawford also filled the box score with six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block.  Redshirt junior Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) recorded 14 points, seven rebounds and a game-high six assists, while junior Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa./Redemption Christian Academy) finished with 11 points and four boards.
 
Redshirt junior Xavier Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Saul) contributed nine points, while junior Turhan Griffin (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Learning Center) added seven points, two assists and two steals off the bench.
 
For Chestnut Hill, junior Luke Dickson led the way with a game-high 19 points, while senior Christian Walck came away with 12 points, six rebounds and six assists.  Senior Seamus Radtke added nine points and seven rebounds.
 
In the first half, both teams battled back-and-forth with neither team taking a lead larger than two possessions.  The first half alone saw seven different lead changes as well as the game being tied six different occasions.
 
With the game tied 26-26 in the final minutes of the half, the Tigers scored six unanswered points capped by a three-pointer by Crawford with :28 seconds left until halftime.  Crawford's three-pointer propelled the Tigers to a 32-26 halftime advantage.
 
Holy Family increased its lead to as many as nine points to start the second half when junior Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) knocked down a three-pointer in the opening seconds to make the score 35-26.  Stewart totaled four points and finished tied for the team lead with seven rebounds.
 
The Tigers maintained the lead throughout the half, despite Chestnut Hill coming within one point of tying the game late in the half.  A Dickson layup made the score 49-48 with 6:15 to play, however Holy Family responded with five straight points to increase the lead back to six points.
 
From that point, the Tigers continued to hold a two-plus possession lead in the final five minutes to hold off the Griffins for the victory.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 21 as the Tigers travel to face Wilmington University in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 6 p.m.
