Tigers Hold Off West Chester, 99-92



West Chester, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team scored a season-high 99 points as the Tigers defeated West Chester University by the score of 99-92 in a non-conference contest on Sunday night at the Hollinger Field House.
 
Holy Family improves to 12-4 overall, while West Chester falls to 7-10 overall this season.
 
Redshirt junior Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) led the Holy Family offense with a season-high 30 points; four shy of his career-high.  Charles shot 9-of-15 from the field and converted 11-of-12 from the free throw line.  He also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out three assists.
 
Redshirt junior Eric Fleming (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) shot 6-of-10, including 4-of-7 from deep range on his way to a season-high 16-point performance.  Junior Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) also finished with 16 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and 6-of-8 from the free throw line.
 
Junior Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) totaled 11 points (4-6 FG) to go along with five rebounds, while junior Hunter Wysocki (Howell, N.J./Colts Neck) produced 11 points (4-7 FG/3-5 3FG) and two blocks. 
 
For West Chester, senior Ben Mingledough and junior Parrish Grant each led the Golden Rams with 19 points apiece.  Mingledough shot 7-of-11 from the field and also recorded six rebounds.  Grant finished 6-of-9 from the floor and totaled four boards and five assists.
 
Holy Family opened the game on a 9-2 run and went on to lead throughout never trailing in the game.  The Tigers led by as many as 19 points midway through the first half.  Wysocki drained a three-pointer to make the score 31-12. 
 
Holy Family went on to lead 44-29 at halftime and maintained its lead well into the second half.  However, West Chester began chipping away at the Tigers' lead and would come within two points at the 13:30 mark.  A Mingledough layup made the score 57-55. 
 
The Tigers continued to keep West Chester at bay but the Golden Rams eventually tied the game at 76-76 after freshman Tyrell Long scored a basket with 4:53 to play. 
 
From that point, the Tigers responded with an 11-1 run over the next three minutes to regain and increase their lead back to double-digits.  A pair of free throws by Charles capped the run as the Tigers led 87-77 with 1:59 showing on the clock.  During the run, Holy Family shot 9-of-9 from the free throw line as they held off a potential comeback by the Golden Rams.
 
Holy Family shot a season-best 27-of-32 from the free throw line, while West Chester converted 19-of-29 from the line.  The Tigers also drained 12 three-pointers (12-32) marking the 11th time this season that the team connected on double-digit three-pointers.

Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 13 as the Tigers host the University of the Sciences in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.  Game time is slated for 8 p.m. at the Campus Center Gymnasium.
