Tigers Defeat Goldey-Beacom, 3-1



Wilmington, Del. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team won its third straight match after defeating Goldey-Beacom College, 3-1, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Tuesday night at the Joseph West Jones Center.
 
Holy Family improves to 6-9 overall and 4-1 in the CACC with the victory.  The Tigers currently sit in first place in the CACC South Division standings.  Goldey-Beacom is now 7-8 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
 
The Tigers won the first two sets to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.  Holy Family won the first set by the score of 25-20 and followed with a 25-21 victory in set two.  Goldey-Beacom kept the match alive with a 25-19 victory in set three before the Tigers came away with a 28-26 triumph in the fourth set to take the match.
 
In the fourth set, the Tigers led by as many as seven points when freshman Melanie Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) recorded a kill to make the score 19-12.  M. Ingram was one of three players for Holy Family to record double-digit kills.  She finished the match with 13 kills to go along with nine digs.
 
As the set progressed, the Lightning eventually tied the score at 21-21 taking advantage of three straight attack errors by the Tigers. Both teams would go back and forth down the stretch exchanging points, before the Tigers finally closed out the match.  Junior Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) recorded back-to-back kills to break a 26-26 tie. 
 
The two kills capped a 16-kill performance by Johnson as she led the Tigers' attack.  She also totaled seven digs and four block assists.  Sophomore Katelyn Scherber (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) finished with 11 kills and four digs, while sophomore Laura Tamas (Rhode-St-Genese, Belgium) set a new career-high with 30 digs.
 
Senior Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion), who was recently named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week, set a new career-high with 49 set assists to go along with three kills, three service aces and six digs.  Junior Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) contributed seven kills and three service aces, while redshirt sophomore Erin Miller (Chandler, Ariz. /Corona del sol) added seven kills and three block assists.
 
For Georgian Court, senior Kadi McCoy finished with a match-high 17 kills to go along with eight digs.  Sophomore Grace McCarthy totaled ten kills, while junior Danielle Cipolletti led the team with 33 set assists and 16 digs.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Friday, Oct. 3 as the Tigers travel to face Wilmington University in a CACC contest.  Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
