Tigers Defeat USciences, 3-1

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team picked up its first conference win of the season as the Tigers defeated the University of the Sciences, 3-1, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Tuesday night at the Bob Morgan Arena.

Holy Family improves to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in the CACC, while USciences falls to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference action.

Holy Family cruised through the first two sets to take a 2-0 lead in the match.  The Tigers took set one by the score of 25-14 and followed with a 25-16 win in set two.  The Devils bounced back and won the third set by the score of 25-21, before Holy Family clinched the match with a 25-17 victory in set number four.

Fresh off her CACC Rookie of the Week recognition, freshman Melanie Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) came through with a match-high 18 kills to lead the Tigers' attack.  Ingram made only six errors on the attack as she recorded a .286 attack percentage.  She also led the team with a season-high 18 digs.

Junior Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) also had an impressive night offensively as she recorded 14 kills to go along with a team-best attack percentage of .290.  She made only five errors on the attack.  Fellow classmate Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) also recorded double-figures in kills with 13.  Johnson also recorded 15 digs on defense.

Senior setter Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) set the offense up with 47 set assists, tying a career-high set back on Oct. 12, 2012 versus, ironically, the Devils.  She also recorded 12 digs.

Sophomore Katelyn Scherber (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) finished with eight kills and 11 digs, while sophomore Laura Tamas (Rhode-St-Genese, Belgium) recorded 17 digs and two service aces.

For USciences, senior Amanda DeAngelo led the team with 14 kills to go along with ten digs.  Sophomore Christine Irrera tallied a match-high 24 digs on defense, while fellow classmate Elizabeth Eaton totaled 19 digs.
