BOX SCORE

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The Holy Family University women's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest at Mercy College by the score of 7-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Mavericks Field.

Holy Family is now 2-3-0 overall, while Mercy improves to 4-1-0 overall this season.

Mercy scored five second half goals to propel itself to the one-sided victory.  The Mavericks opened the game with back-to-back goals in the 15th and 22nd minute to lead 2-0 midway through the first half.

However, Holy Family cut the lead in half when sophomore Ashley Shackleford (Burlington, N.J./Holy Cross HS) came through with her team-leading second goal of the season.  Shackleford connected after receiving a cross pass from sophomore Ursula Coyle (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) to make the score 2-1 in the 23rd minute.

The score remained 2-1 entering halftime, but the Mavericks exploded for five goals in the second half to pull away from the Tigers.  Freshman Alyssa Iannuzzi led Mercy with two goals in the second half, scoring in the 63rd and 86th minute.

Freshman Heidi Serna led all scorers with three goals as she recorded a hat trick with a goal in the 88th minute.  Serna scored in the 22nd and 57th minute as well for the Mavs.

Holy Family is back in action on Thursday, Sept. 18 as the Tigers travel to face Wilmington University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.  Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
