STONEHILL BOX SCORENewark, Del. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team split its two matches on day one of the Wildcat Regional Invitational hosted by Wilmington University on Friday at the WU Athletic Complex.

Holy Family (2-5) opened the tournament with a 3-2 victory over Merrimack College (2-2) and concluded the day with a 3-2 setback versus Stonehill College (4-1).

Holy Family 3, Merrimack 2 (20-25, 26-24, 25-22, 20-25, 15-13)Â
Against Merrimack, Holy Family earned a hard-fought victory picking up the victory in five sets. After dropping the first set, 25-20, the Tigers bounced back and won back-to-back sets to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Holy Family won set two by the score of 26-24 and followed with a 25-22 victory in set three.Â

However, the Warriors went on to tie the match 2-2 with a 25-20 victory in the fourth set. The Tigers clinched the match with a 15-13 win in the fifth and decisive set. The win marked the first ever victory over Merrimack as the Tigers evened the all-time series at 1-1.

Junior
Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) led the Tigers attack coming through with a career-high 21 kills as she recorded an impressive .465 attack percentage. Freshman
Melanie Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) recorded 15 kills for the second straight match to go along with a team-high 17 digs.Â

Sophomore
Laura Tamas (Rhode-St-Genese, Belgium/) added nine kills and 12 digs, while senior
Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) finished with a season-high 38 set assists.

For Merrimack, senior Stephanie Sheehan totaled a match-high 27 kills and 20 digs. She finished with an attack percentage of .349. Senior Corrine Gosselin added 11 kills, while sophomore Jennifer Cain finished with 10 kills. Tara Stuhr recorded a match-high 55 set assists to go along with six kills and 13 digs.

Stonehill 3, Holy Family 2 (26-28, 19-25, 26-24, 26-24, 9-15)Â
Against Stonehill, the Tigers late rally fell short as the Skyhawks defeated the Tigers, 3-2, in five sets. After dropping the first two sets, Holy Family responded with back-to-back victories in sets three and four by identical 26-24 scores. Despite the rally, the Tigers fell short in the fifth and final set by the score of 15-9.Â

It marked the second victory this season for the Skyhawks versus the Tigers. The two teams faced one another at last week's Marauder Clash hosted by Millersville University.

Holy Family had four players record ten kills in the match, which included D. Ingram, M. Ingram, Johnson and Tamas. D. Ingram finished the match with a team-high 19 digs, while M. Ingram totaled 15 digs.Â

Freshman
Kacie Brien (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) served as the team's setter in the match and finished with 29 set assists. She also recorded 12 digs. Johnson totaled four solo blocks as the Tigers finished the match with 12 total blocks, including eight solos.

For Stonehill, senior Mary-Kate Catton led the team with 13 kills to go along with five service aces and ten digs. Senior Emily Iverson paced the offense with a match-high 48 assists, while adding 12 digs and six kills.

Holy Family will face two more non-conference opponents on Saturday for day two of the tournament. The Tigers are set to compete with Millersville (10 a.m.) and Bentley University (12 p.m.)
