Philadelphia Rallies Past Tigers, 3-2

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team suffered a 3-2 defeat by the hands of its cross-town rivals, Philadelphia University, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on Wednesday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium.
 
Holy Family is now 1-4 overall and 0-1 to start conference play, while Philadelphia improves to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the CACC.
 
Holy Family opened the match winning the first two sets in convincing fashion as the Tigers took the two sets by the score of 25-15 and 25-19.  However, Philadelphia rallied from two sets down to take the final three sets and secure the victory.  The Rams won the third set 25-22 and followed with scores of 25-18 and 15-10 to clinch the match.
 
The Tigers had two players finish in double figure kills as junior Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) and freshman Melanie Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) combined for 28 kills.  Johnson totaled 13 kills to go along with a team-high 18 digs.  Melanie Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) recorded a team-high 15 kills and finished with 17 digs.
 
Sophomore Katelyn Scherber (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) came away with a career-high 15 digs on the defense end to go along with one solo block and a block assist.  Redshirt sophomore Erin Miller (Chandler, Ariz. /Corona del sol) totaled three blocks on defense (2BS/1BA), while freshman Cecilia Weir (Warminster, Pa./William Tennant) finished with a season-high 14 digs and four service aces.
 
Senior Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) paced the offense with a season-high 31 set assists.  She also recorded a season-high 11 digs on defense.
 
For Philadelphia, junior Chelsea Hughes led the attack with a match-high 16 kills to go along with 13 digs.  She also recorded four total blocks, including three solo blocks.  Furthermore, Hughes nailed four aces on the serve.
 
Senior Terra Ecker led the match with six service aces to lead the Rams.  Ecker also had seven kills and 15 digs.  Junior Nina Morvin tied the match-high with 31 set assists to go along with 11 digs.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Friday, Sept. 12 as the Tigers take part in the Wilmington Invitational hosted by Wilmington University.  The Tigers will face Merrimack College (3 p.m.) and Stonehill College (7 p.m.) on day one of the tournament.
