Bloomfield, N.J. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team had three starters score in double-figures but it wasn't enough as Bloomfield College defeated the Tigers by the score of 72-66 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the Bloomfield Gymnasium.

Holy Family is now 14-7 overall and 9-4 in the CACC, while Bloomfield improves to 13-7 overall and 11-2 in conference action.

Senior
Ervin Ezell (Deptford, N.J./Deptford High) led the Tigers with a team-high 19 points. Ezell also led the way with four steals on the defensive end as well as a pair of blocks. Senior
Alberto Munoz (Morrisville, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) finished with 14 points after knocking down a team-high three three-pointers. Munoz also blocked a pair of shots on defense. Sophomore
Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) recorded 11 points to go along with six rebounds.

Redshirt senior
Khiry Hankins (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day School) and junior
Brian Patterson (New Haven, Conn./Hillhouse) each contributed eight points off the bench for the Tigers. Sophomore
Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa./Redemption Christian Academy) blocked a game-high four shots to go along with six points and five rebounds.

Junior Marvin Williams led all scorers with 20 points as he shot 7-of-9 from the free throw line for Bloomfield. He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out a pair of assists. Senior Mike Williams tallied 11 points and seven rebounds, while junior Matt Hall and sophomore Clarence White each added ten points a piece off the bench for the Deacons.

Holy Family led by as many as ten points midway through the first half. The Tigers went on a 10-0 run after the game was knotted up at 11-11 to take a 21-11 advantage. Patterson and Stewart capped the rally with back-to-back three-pointers.

However, Bloomfield followed with a 13-2 run to regain the lead after a Marvin Williams three-pointer made the score 24-23 with 4:12 to play in the half. The Deacons would go on to take a 32-29 lead at halftime.

In the second half Bloomfield did not relinquish the lead even after the Tigers tied the game with a three-point play by Patterson. The layup and free throw tied the game at 39-39 at the 13:10 mark.Â

The Deacons would go on to take their biggest lead of the game later in the half after a three-pointer by White made the score 57-47 with 6:24 to play.

Holy Family came within two possessions of the lead in the final minute when Gans scored a layup basket to cut the score to 68-64 with :29 seconds on the clock. Bloomfield countered with a pair of free throws to help hold off the Tigers.

Holy Family forced 20 turnovers and only turned the ball over eight times. It marked the seventh time this season that the Tigers' offense recorded single digit turnovers on offense.Â

Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 5 as the Tigers host Goldey-Beacom College in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 8 p.m. at the Campus Center Gymnasium.
