Tigers Rally Past Dominican, 86-78



 
Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team had five players score in double-figures as the Tigers rallied past Dominican College, 86-78, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center Gymnasium.
 
Holy Family, winners of six straight games, improves to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the CACC.  The win also snaps a five game losing skid against the Chargers.  Dominican is now 3-4 overall and 3-1 in conference action.
 
Senior Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa./Redemption Christian Academy) scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Tigers offensive attack.  Gans also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds to go along with three blocks on defense.  Junior Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) finished with 14 points, six rebounds and a team-high seven assists, while redshirt junior Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) added 13 points, six rebounds and six assists.
 
Juniors Turhan Griffin (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Learning Center) and Hunter Wysocki (Howell, N.J./Colts Neck) both scored in double-figures off the bench for the Tigers.  Griffin finished with 12 points, while Wysocki came away with 13 points and eight rebounds.  He shot a perfect 3-of-3 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line.
 
For Dominican, senior Nick Smith led the way with a game-high 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting.  He also grabbed eight rebounds, blocked a shot and recorded a pair of steals.  Senior Robert Hueston and sophomore Kristopher Hargraves each finished with 16 points.  Hargraves also dished out six assists.  Junior Joe Clinton finished the game with a high eight assists.
 
Holy Family led by as many as 13 points in the first half after Crawford converted a three-point play at the 6:39 mark.  Crawford converted the free throw after scoring a layup basket to make the score 34-21.
 
However, Dominican went on a 20-6 run the final six-plus minutes of the half to lead 41-40 at the half. Hargraves drained a three-pointer as time expired to cap the run.
 
In the second half, the Chargers led majority of the way and held a two-possession lead with 7:09 to play in the half.  A basket by Smith made the score 66-62. 
 
Minutes later, Griffin drained a three-pointer to give the Tigers the lead; this time for good.  The three-pointer gave Holy Family a 68-66 advantage with 5:54 left on the clock.  On the team's next possession, Gans connected on a three of his own to increase the lead to 71-66.
 
The Tigers maintained the lead the rest of the way and led by as many as nine points in the final seconds.  Wysocki converted a pair of free throws with :19 seconds to play to make the score 84-75.
 
Holy Family shot 51.6-percent from the field in the second half and finished the game connecting on 30-of-63.  The Tigers also knocked down 11 (11-31) three-pointers and shot 15-of-19 from the free throw line.
Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 10 as the Tigers travel to Maryland to face Bowie State University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
