Tigers Over Power Philadelphia, 73-51



Philadelphia, Pa. - Junior Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa./Redemption Christian Academy) scored 16 of his team-high 18 points in the second half as the Holy Family University men's basketball team defeated visiting Philadelphia University by the score of 73-51 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Wednesday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium.
 
The win extends Holy Family's winning streak to five games as the Tigers are now 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the CACC.  Philadelphia is now 3-4 overall and 1-1 in conference action.
 
Gans shot 5-of-7 from the field in the second half, including 4-of-6 from three-point range to help lead the Tigers' offensive explosion.  Gans finished the game 6-of-13 from the field and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc to go along with seven rebounds.
 
Redshirt junior Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) also scored in double-figures as he totaled 18 to go along with a season-high eight assists.  Juniors Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) and Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) both finished with nine points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field.  Stewart grabbed nine boards and dished out four assists, while Crawford controlled eight rebounds to go along with two assists.
 
For Philadelphia, junior Peter Alexis recorded a double-double as he finished with a game-high 20 points and 14 rebounds.  Fellow classmate Andre Gibbs added eight points, six rebounds and four assists.
 
Holy Family never trailed in the game and held the lead the entire way except for the few moments the game was tied 1-1 early on in the first half.  The Tigers managed a 25-19 lead entering the locker rooms at halftime.
 
In the second half, the Tigers caught fire from deep range knocking down 9-of-19 three-pointer attempts after only hitting on 2-of-10 in the first half.  Holy Family opened the second half with a 19-6 run to lead by 19 points at the 14:02 mark of the half.  Gans drained one of his four three-pointers to make the score 44-25. 
 
Holy Family extended its lead to as many as 25 points after junior Hunter Wysocki (Howell, N.J./Colts Neck) came through with a put-back dunk after grabbing an offensive board.  His basket made the score 67-42 with 3:34 to play in regulation.   Wysocki finished with seven points and three rebounds to go along with a pair of steals.
 
Holy Family shot 52.9-percent (18-34) from the field in the second half and limited Philadelphia to just 36.1-percent shooting the entire game.  The Tigers also forced ten turnovers and turned them into 14 points.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 3 as the Tigers host Dominican College in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 3 p.m. in the Campus Center Gymnasium.
