Late Second Half Rally Lifts Tigers Past Saint Rose, 65-62



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team used an 18-1 run over the game's final 6:17 of regulation to defeat the College of Saint Rose by the score of 65-62 on the final day of the East Region Challenge hosted by Philadelphia University on Sunday afternoon at the Gallagher Athletic Center.
 
Holy Family improves to 9-3 overall, while Saint Rose is now 5-7.
 
All eight players that entered the game for the Tigers scored at least three points in the victory.  Redshirt junior Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) and junior Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) each scored a team-high ten points apiece.  Charles also dished out a game-high six assists.
 
Juniors Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa./Redemption Christian Academy) and Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) each added nine points.  Gans also grabbed seven rebounds, while Stewart added a team-high eight rebounds to go along with two blocks and three steals.  Redshirt junior Xavier Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Saul) also chipped in nine points. 
 
In addition, junior Turhan Griffin (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Learning Center) contributed eight points and four assists, while fellow classmate Hunter Wysocki (Howell, N.J./Colts Neck) added seven points.  Redshirt junior Eric Fleming (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) also scored in the game knocking down a three-pointer. 
 
For Saint Rose, freshman Jalaun Taylor finished with a game-high 14 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists.  Freshman Jack Jones added 12 points, while junior Chris Dorgler added 11 points and seven assists.
 
The Tigers found themselves trailing 61-47 after a layup by Taylor gave the Golden Knights their biggest lead of the game of 14 points with 6:17 to play in regulation.  From that point on, Holy Family began chipping away at the Saint Rose lead.
 
Over the next three-plus minutes, the Tigers silenced the Golden Knights' offense and eventually tied the game thanks to a 14-0 run.  Stewart split a pair of free throws with 2:56 remaining on the clock as his second attempt tied the game at 61-61. 
 
On the team's next possession, Wysocki gave the Tigers their first lead since leading in the opening minute of the half, 38-37. Wysocki's two free throws made the score 63-61.
 
Griffin added another two free throws at the 1:25 mark to increase the Tigers' lead to 65-62 as well as capping the scoring for the game. 
 
Holy Family outscored Saint Rose, 18-1, in the final 6:17 of the game.  The defense held the Golden Knights to 0-for-6 shooting from the field and forced five turnovers. 
 
Holy Family will be in action one last time in 2014 as the Tigers host Wilmington University on New Year's Eve in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.  Game time is slated for 1 p.m. at the Campus Center Gymnasium.
