Philadelphia, Pa. - In an early season match up for first place in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division, the Holy Family University men's basketball team got the best of the University of the Sciences by the score of 69-66 in overtime on Wednesday night at the Bobby Morgan Arena.

Holy Family improves to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the CACC, while USciences is now 8-3 overall and 3-1 in conference action.

Redshirt junior Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge), the CACC Co-Player of the Week, led the Tigers with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field.  Charles also led the team with five assists.  Junior Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) scored a season-high 15 points after shooting 7-of-10, while redshirt junior Xavier Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Saul) added 14 points (5-9 FG) off the bench.  Williams also added six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Junior Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa./Redemption Christian Academy), who was named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week, on Monday finished in double-figures providing 13 points on the offensive end.  He came away with six rebounds and blocked a season-high four shots.

For USciences, senior Garret Kerr led the Devils with a game-high 24 points and 16 rebounds to record a double-double. G. Kerr shot 8-of-16 from the field and was 6-of-9 from the free throw line.  Junior Dylan Kerwin recorded 17 points on the evening, while fellow classmate Sho Da-Silva added 13 points off the bench.

G. Kerr gave USciences the lead with :22 seconds to play in regulation after knocking down a three-pointer to make the score 63-61.  However, on the ensuing possession, Charles scored a layup basket to tie the game at 63-63 with :13 seconds showing on the clock.

On the next Devils possession, junior Wes Kerr turned the ball over giving the Tigers an opportunity to win the game with five seconds remaining.  After a Holy Family timeout, the Tigers managed a shot at the buzzer but a three-point attempt by Charles was off target as the game turned to overtime.

In the overtime period, Holy Family opened with a 5-0 run to take a 68-63 lead.  Stewart opened with a layup score and on the next Tigers' possession, Williams knocked down a three to cap the mini run at the 3:44 mark.

The Holy Family defense held USciences without a made field goal the entire overtime period as the Devils shot 0-of-6 from the field.  The Devils did convert 3-of-6 from the free throw line and cut the Tigers' lead to 68-66 after G. Kerr split a pair of free throws with 1:30 on the clock.

Despite going 3:41 minutes without a point, the Tigers held on to the lead and managed to extend it to three points in the final seconds.  Williams grabbed a key defensive board and was quickly fouled.  He went on to split a pair of free throws to make the score 69-66.

G. Kerr grabbed the defensive board after Williams missed the second of the two free throws as the Devils called a timeout with two seconds to play.  However, USciences was unable to get a shot off before the buzzer went off as the Tigers came through with the three-point overtime victory.

Holy Family shot 49.1-percent from the field and drained ten three-pointers (10-29) for the game.  The Tigers overcame a 13-point deficit after trailing 29-16 at the 5:36 mark of the first half.  Holy Family trailed most of the second half but eventually tied the game after Stewart hit a three-pointer to tie the score at 51-51.

The Tigers grabbed the lead at 53-51 when Williams scored a layup.  It was the team's first advantage since leading in the opening moments of the game.  Redshirt junior Eric Fleming (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) opened the game with a three-pointer on the Tigers' second possession.

Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 20 as the Tigers face Assumption College in a non-conference contest on the opening day of the East Region Challenge hosted by Philadelphia University.  Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
