Tigers Fall to Post, 3-2, in Regular Season Finale



Waterbury, Conn. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team were edged by Post University by the score of 3-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at the Drubner Center. Post won the match by the scores of 25-22, 25-12, 23-25, 19-25 and 15-6.
 
Holy Family is now 12-18 overall and wraps up conference play with a 10-9 mark.  The Tigers recently clinched the fourth seed out of the South Division and will face the top seed out of the North Division in next week's CACC quarterfinal match up. 
 
Meanwhile, Post improves to 19-10 overall and finishes conference play with a 14-5 record.  The Eagles finished tied for first place in the north with Caldwell University earning a share of the North Division Regular Season Title.
 
After dropping the first two sets of the match, the Tigers rallied to win set three and four to tie the score at 2-2.  In the third set, Holy Family led a majority of the set but encountered a 22-20 deficit late in the set.  However, the Tigers scored five of the next six points, including a pair of service aces by freshman Cecilia Weir (Warminster, Pa./William Tennant) to take the set, 25-23.  Weir finished with the match-high four aces.
 
In the fourth set the Tigers led from beginning to end after opening with three straight points.  Holy Family led by as many as eight points after back-to-back attack errors by the Eagles made the score 19-11 in favor of the Tigers.
 
However, in the fifth set the Eagles came out firing scoring nine of the first 12 points of the set to take a 9-3 advantage.  Post went on to win the set by the score of 15-6 to clinch the match.
 
Junior Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) and freshman Melanie Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) each tallied a match-high 16 kills to lead the attack.  Johnson also tallied five digs and five block assists on defense, while M. Ingram added ten digs.
 
Junior Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) totaled eight kills and three total blocks, while redshirt sophomore Erin Miller (Chandler, Ariz. /Corona del sol) added four kills and five block assists.  Miller now has 71 total blocks on the season.
 
Senior Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) continues to put up big numbers from the setter position as she totaled a team-high 41 set assists.  It marks the fourth straight match and seventh time this season that she has recorded 40 or more assists in a single match.
 
For Post, senior Emily Wilman led the Eagles with 13 kills to go along with ten digs, while junior Hailey Griffin and sophomore Skylar German each totaled 11 kills apiece.  Junior Janiellee Alvarez led the match with 24 digs on defense, while senior Julia Slyaktina recorded a match-high 48 set assists.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 11 as the Tigers face top-seeded Caldwell out of the North Division in a rematch of last year's quarterfinal match up.
