Tigers Fall to Caldwell in CACC Quarterfinals, 3-1

Caldwell, N.J. - Juniors Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) and Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) combined for 25 kills, however the Holy Family University women's volleyball team came up short in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Quarterfinals at Caldwell University by the score of 3-1 on Tuesday night at the Newman Center.

Holy Family concludes its season with a 12-19 record, while Caldwell improves to 21-10 overall and advances to the CACC semifinals on Friday afternoon.  The Cougars have ended the Tigers' season four times in the past five years.  Caldwell defeated Holy Family in 2010 and 2011 in the CACC Championship Final and in last year's quarterfinal prior to tonight's postseason match.

Holy Family opened the match with a 25-21 victory in a back-and-forth first set.  The Tigers broke an 18-18 tie with a kill by freshman Melanie Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) followed by a ball handling error by the Cougars to lead 20-18.  Holy Family led the rest of the way and capped the set with a kill by Herring.

However, Caldwell responded with three straight victories winning by the scores 25-21, 25-15 and 25-22.  The Cougars trailed early on in each of the final three sets, but overcame the Tigers opening surge to pick up the victory.

Johnson led the Tigers with 13 kills to go along with 12 digs and two block assists on defense.  She'll enter her senior season 75 kills shy of becoming the fourth player in program history to record 1,000 career kills.  Johnson currently has 925 career kills.

Herring came away with 12 kills and will also enter next season in striking distance of 1,000 career kills as well.  She currently has 798 career kills through three seasons.

Freshman Melanie Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) recorded nine kills and 24 digs, while sophomore Laura Tamas (Rhode-St-Genese, Belgium) totaled a team-high 25 digs.  Freshman Cecilia Weir (Warminster, Pa./William Tennant) produced ten digs on defense.  Redshirt sophomore Erin Miller (Chandler, Ariz. /Corona del sol) finished with five total blocks, including four block assists.

Senior Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) recorded 40 set assists to end the season with five straight 40-plus assists performances.  She also finished with ten digs.  D. Ingram concludes her career fourth on the program's all-time list with 1,167 assists and fifth all-time with 1,268 digs.  She is just one of two players to record 1,000-plus digs and assists in a single career joining fellow standout Aimee Drabyn (2007-2010) as the only players to complete such feat.

For Caldwell, senior Athena Nestoras led the team with ten kills, while fellow classmate Erica Harrell and sophomore Rachael DiLeonardo each added nine kills.  DiLeonardo also finished with 15 digs and five block assists.  Senior Jaclyn Del Cid finished with a match-high 32 digs on defense.
