Bloomfield, N.J. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Bloomfield College by the score of 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Bloomfield Gymnasium. The Bears won the match by the scores of 25-21, 25-27, 20-25, 29-27, 15-10.
Holy Family is now 11-16 overall and 9-7 in the CACC, while Bloomfield improves to 15-12 overall and 11-6 in conference action.
After dropping the first set by the score of 25-21, Holy Family responded with back-to-back victories in sets two and three. The Tigers won the second set, 27-25, and followed with a 25-20 victory in set three. In the third set, Holy Family went on an 11-2 run after trailing 18-14 to come away with the victory.
In the fourth set, Holy Family led majority of the set and had a 22-14 advantage after recording four straight points. However, Bloomfield rallied and went on to tie the set 24-24 before winning the set, 29-27. The Bears then went on to win the fifth and decisive set by the score of 15-10 to clinch the match.
Junior
Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) led the match with 20 kills to go along with 12 digs. She also recorded a match-high four service aces. Freshman
Melanie Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) also came away with double-figure kills as she totaled 12 on the attack and finished with 20 digs on defense.
Junior
Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) contributed ten kills, seven digs and four block assists, while senior
Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) totaled a match-high 43 set assists to go along with 12 digs. D. Ingram also had a pair of kills. Sophomore
Laura Tamas (Rhode-St-Genese, Belgium) led the team with 25 digs, while redshirt sophomore
Erin Miller (Chandler, Ariz. /Corona del sol) finished with seven kills and one solo block. Sophomore
Katelyn Scherber (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) produced nine kills and nine digs in the match.
For Bloomfield, senior Deandra Black and junior Diannmarie Rivera each led the team with 13 kills apiece. Black also had a match-high six block assists, while Rivera added nine digs. Freshman Samantha Rios recorded a match-high 30 digs.
Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 4 as the Tigers host Wilmington University in a CACC contest. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. at the Campus Center Gymnasium.
