Tigers Roll Past Chestnut Hill, 3-1




Philadelphia, Pa. - Junior Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) and freshman Melanie Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) combined for 31 kills as the Holy Family University women's volleyball team defeated Chestnut Hill College by the score of 3-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Wednesday night at Sorgenti Arena.
 
Holy Family improves to 8-10 overall and 6-2 in the CACC, while Chestnut Hill falls to 10-9 overall and 5-3 in conference play. 
 
Holy Family won the first two sets by identical 25-15 scores to take a 2-0 lead in the match.  In the first set, the Tigers went on a 12-2 run to close out the set.  Junior Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) recorded four straight service aces to jump-start the rally.  Herring finished the match with a season-high seven aces.
 
In the second set, the Tigers scored the final six points to pick up the one-sided victory.  Holy Family led the entire set except for a short moment when it was tied at 1-1.
 
Chestnut Hill bounced back in the third set and won by the score of 25-23.  However, the Tigers responded in the fourth set with a 26-24 victory of their own to clinch the match. 
 
Holy Family led 24-20, but Chestnut Hill rallied with four straight points to tie the set.  The Tigers prevailed though recording the final two points to win the set.  The team took advantage of a service error by the Griffins and Herring sealed the victory with a kill; her eighth of the match.
 
M. Ingram led the Tigers attack with 17 kills to go along with 16 digs.  Johnson also tallied double-digit kills as she finished with 14.  She also totaled six digs and three service aces. 
 
Senior Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) paced the offense with 36 set assists and totaled a season-high 22 digs.  Sophomore Laura Tamas (Rhode-St-Genese, Belgium), who was recently named the CACC Defensive Player of the Week, finished with a team-high 23 digs. 
 
Holy Family finished the match with 14 service aces, which tied a season-high for the team. 
 
For Chestnut Hill, junior Rachel Biro led the team with 11 kills to go along with five digs.  Senior Kaitlyn Schock added ten kills, while sophomore Madison McBride came away with seven kills and nine digs.  Sophomore Regina Trabosh finished with a match-high 27 digs.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 11 as the Tigers host Felician College in a CACC contest.  Match time is slated for 12 p.m. at the Campus Center Gymnasium.
